The Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Regis College is inviting applications for a full-time, term track Assistant Professor of Biology position. The person hired for this position will be teaching a broad range of courses including but not limited to Anatomy and Physiology I / II and Microbiology and will be expected to work on our Weston campus.
The STEM Department is a multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative department that houses programs in Biomedical Engineering, and Biology. As well, the Department includes faculty in the following disciplines : Chemistry, Mathematics, Lab Operations Management, and Physics. Faculty not only support their own majors, minors, and advisees within the department, they also teach non-majors who must complete undergraduate core requirements in the natural sciences, as well as students majoring in nursing and the allied health professions. It is expected that anyone hired as an Assistant Professor of Biology would collaborate within the department and across academic departments and programs.
We seek diverse candidates with accomplishments and experience in teaching a wide range of biology courses to diverse populations of undergraduate students using high impact practices and innovative pedagogy. We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty and who share our vision of helping students reach their full potential through excellence in teaching and in developing innovative curriculum, labs, and research experiences for undergraduate students. Anyone hired for this position should be able to place the history and practice of Biology within broader conversations concerning diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Essential Functions
- Teach the equivalent of a 4-4 load during the academic year, inclusive of introductory courses in Biology and courses in the faculty's specialty.
- Actively collaborate within the department and across academic departments and programs to identify barriers to student success and then constructively address those barriers to promote student success.
- Engage in scholarly activity appropriate to the discipline such as publishing; presenting at national, regional, and local conferences; conducting research; and / or grant writing and related activities.
- Fulfill all roles and responsibilities associated with a faculty appointment, including teaching, scholarship and service to the Department, Programs, School and Institution.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum requirement : earned PhD in Biology or similar field; candidates who specialize in any of the following are particularly encouraged to apply : anatomy & physiology, Microbiology.Ability to place the history and practice of the field within broader conversations concerning diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.Demonstrated evidence of at least three years prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level with expertise in high impact teaching practices.Demonstrated experience with designing and teaching undergraduate labs is highly desired.Demonstrated evidence of online teaching and course development experience.Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues.Demonstrated familiarity with academic assessment, particularly at the course level.Familiarity with the learning management system Moodle is preferred but not required.Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom learning environment in keeping with the University's commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.Working Conditions / Physical Demands
