What you will do

In this vital role, you will shape and accelerate Amgen's AI innovation agenda ensuring the successful progression, scaling, and de-risking of high-value AI and emerging technology initiatives. You will focus on translating AI potential into measurable business value, fostering innovation while systematically identifying and mitigating risks across the technology lifecycle.

As part of Amgen's Technology Innovation Lab within the AI & Data organization , you will report to the Executive Director, Technology Strategy & Innovation , collaborating with cross-functional partners and external innovators to drive value creation aligned with Amgen's AI strategic imperatives and digital transformation roadmap.

1. Lead AI Product Strategy and Ownership

Serve as Product Owner for AI and digital innovation initiatives within an Agile framework.

Define and evolve the vision, roadmap, and success metrics for Amgen's AI product portfolio, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and scientific rigor.

Drive rapid experimentation and iterative validation , enabling accelerated learning while minimizing exposure to technical or operational risks.

2. Bridge AI Strategy and Business Impact

Act as a strategic integrator between technology, data science, and business functions to ensure AI investments deliver high-value outcomes.

Translate business opportunities into actionable AI use cases with clear hypotheses, value targets, and risk mitigation plans.

Partner with ATMOS, Business Technology Leaders, and external collaborators to operationalize and scale trusted AI systems.

3. Orchestrate the AI Innovation Lifecycle

Oversee the end-to-end progression of AI initiatives from concept incubation and proof-of-value to enterprise scaling.

Champion AI governance and compliance-by-design , embedding data quality, model robustness, and ethical AI principles.

Implement frameworks for continuous de-risking , addressing challenges such as data drift, bias, or integration complexity early in development.

4. Accelerate Value While De-Risking Delivery

Establish repeatable patterns for scaling AI products through Amgen's enterprise model, ensuring they are reliable, interpretable, and compliant.

Introduce quantitative risk assessment tools and decision gates to evaluate readiness for scale.

Balance speed and safety driving innovation with accountability and resilience.

5. Generate Strategic Foresight and Technology Intelligence

Maintain an expert understanding of the AI and emerging technology landscape , assessing opportunities and risks of adoption.

Advise on technology selection and partnerships , focusing on solutions that maximize strategic advantage while minimizing technical debt and exposure.

Provide evidence-based insights to guide AI investment prioritization and platform evolution.

6. Enable Adoption and Change Management

Design and lead change management strategies that promote adoption of AI tools across Amgen's enterprise.

Embed user feedback loops and education programs to ensure AI capabilities are trusted, intuitive, and impactful.

Partner with Communications and Learning teams to cultivate a culture of AI fluency and responsible innovation .

7. Communicate with Transparency and Influence

Deliver clear, data-driven reporting on initiative progress, value realization, and risk posture to leadership and governance bodies (e.g., Technology Innovation Lab, ATMOS Governance).

Serve as a trusted thought partner, fostering transparency and cross-functional alignment across all AI innovation streams.

Basic Qualifications :

Doctorate degree and 4 years of technology and / or product management experience

Masters degree and 8 years of technology and / or product management experience

Bachelor degree and 10 years of technology and / or product management experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and / or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Preferred Qualifications :

Aligns Product Vision with Business and Technical Requirements : Translates organizational goals into clear product requirements, ensuring alignment between technical capabilities and business objectives.

Foundational Technical Competencies : Working knowledge in one or more of the following areasdata science, machine learning, coding (Python, R, or similar), or MLOps. Ability to engage with data scientists and machine learning engineers to guide project scope and technical feasibility.

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills : Strong analytical abilities to address complex challenges in AI development and to derive insights for strategic decision-making.

Effective Communication Skills : Demonstrable ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical collaborators and communicate priorities, status updates, and outcomes effectively across all levels.

Project and Relationship Management : Excellent project management skills with a record of building strong partnerships across cross-functional teams and managing diverse workloads to meet deadlines.

Independent and Collaborative Working Style : Ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance and know when to seek input, combined with a collaborative approach to achieve alignment and support project goals.

AI and Digital Transformation knowledge : Understanding of AI-focused solutions and digital transformation trends, particularly in life sciences.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
