A Criminal Defense Attorney with 2+ years' professional legal experience is needed for a remote position in Austin, TX. The ideal Defense Attorney candidate will have a strong commitment to criminal defense, excellent courtroom skills, and the ability to handle a demanding caseload in a fast-paced environment.
Criminal Defense Attorney Responsibilities :
- Represent clients in a variety of criminal cases, including misdemeanors, felonies, DUI, drug offenses, assault, theft, and other criminal charges.
- Handle all phases of criminal cases, from arraignment through trial, including pre-trial motions, discovery, plea negotiations, and sentencing hearings.
- Conduct thorough legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents. Draft and file legal motions, briefs, and other court documents in a timely manner.
- Appear in local, state, and federal courts on behalf of clients for hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings.
- Maintain regular and effective communication with clients, providing legal advice, updates on case status, and answering questions related to their cases.
- Engage in plea negotiations with prosecutors to secure the best possible outcomes for clients, when applicable.
- Work with investigators, expert witnesses, and other legal professionals to develop effective defense strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all court orders, ethical rules, and legal standards while vigorously advocating for clients' rights.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff on case strategies and provide mentorship to paralegals or interns, as needed.
Criminal Defense Attorney Qualifications :
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law and in good standing with the Texas State Bar.
- 2+ years' experience in criminal defense, ideally in both misdemeanor and felony cases.
- Valid drivers’ license and ability to drive distances of up to 100 miles.
- Strong litigation and courtroom advocacy skills, including trial experience.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with clients, judges, and court personnel.
- Ability to manage up to 100 cases with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Commitment to protecting client rights and achieving the best possible legal outcomes.
- Experience handling felony cases is preferred.
- Spanish language proficiency or fluency is highly preferred.
