POSITION(S) SUMMARY
Diagnose the presence and stage of diseases using laboratory techniques from Fine Needle Aspirations and Non-Gynecological specimens.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Microscopic examination of prepared tissue sections, smears and Thin Prep cytospins from a variety of body fluids.
Identifies the etiology, pathogenesis, morphological change, and clinical significance of slides reviewed.
Provides diagnostic information to the treating / referring physician in the form of a written pathology report and a call back when warranted.
Consults with referring physicians about ordering and interpreting tests or providing treatments.
Participates in proficiency testing programs and intradepartmental meetings to establish measures to ensure and improve accuracy of diagnoses and quality of care.
Participates in professional organizations, conferences and seminars to keep abreast of developments in pathology.
Participate with training and educating laboratory personnel, students, and residents in the processing of specimens.
Required to take photomicrographs of diagnostic significance for patient reports.
Consult with peers on difficult cases as required.
May be asked to testify in depositions or trials as an expert witness.
Complete annual training programs within the required timeframe and regularly attends staff meetings.
Maintain strict patient and business confidentiality.
Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
Adherence to CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
Active involvement in laboratory operations.
Sufficient time on-site to effectively complete daily assignments
Active participation in the company quality management system program.
Management of adverse outcomes and non-conformities.
Participation in on-site survey with results given in proficiency testing.
POSITION REQUIRMENTS :
Completion of an approved four year residency in anatomic and / or clinical pathology.
Board certified in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology or the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology or possess qualifications that are equivalent to those required for such.
Hold Board certification in Cytopathology.
Successful completion of a pre-employment visual color discrimination test.
Complies with Board of Medicine on annual continuing medical education requirements.
Gain / Maintains appropriate medical staff membership and privileges at applicable medical facilities.
Hold an active New York State license.
