Job Overview :

A law firm is seeking a talented and motivated Junior To Mid-Level Product Design And User Interface Patent Associate Attorney to join their team in Salt Lake City, UT.

The ideal candidate will possess significant technical expertise in patent preparation and prosecution, with a strong background in engineering, software, or AI-related technologies.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge innovations in fields such as artificial intelligence, software, and quantum technologies.

Key Responsibilities :

• Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications across various technology domains, including software, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, IoT, and networking.
• Conduct patentability analyses, including prior art searches, and draft patent applications.
• Provide strategic patent counseling to clients, offering guidance on patent portfolios, infringement analysis, and risk management.
• Collaborate closely with inventors, engineers, and scientists to understand and develop innovative technology concepts.
• Assist in IP due diligence, including analyzing patent portfolios in the context of mergers, acquisitions, and licensing deals.
• Review and respond to USPTO office actions and international counterpart communications.
• Stay informed on relevant legal and technical developments that may impact clients’ patent portfolios and strategies.
• Provide advice on user interface (UI) and product design-related patent matters.

Education & Certifications :

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
• Admission to at least one U.S. state bar, with the ability to practice law in Utah preferred.

Required Qualifications :

• 2+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience, preferably within a law firm or corporate setting.
• A degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering , or Computer Science is required.
• Solid law firm experience, showcasing high academic achievement and work in complex technology areas.
• Excellent writing, research, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
• Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications for technologies in software, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking , or quantum technologies .

Preferred Skills & Experience :

• Prior experience working on patents related to software technologies , AI , machine learning , IoT , networking , and quantum computing .
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex technological innovations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic legal team.
• Excellent client management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of product design and user interface patent issues is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with the latest developments in intellectual property law, particularly in the field of emerging technologies.
