Job Summary

The College of Nursing and Health Professions at Drexel University is pleased to invite applications for a full-time non- tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Creative Arts Therapies.

The Director of the Music Therapy and Counseling MA Program oversees the master’s education of approximately 20 graduate music therapy students in this highly selective program, and collaborates on the creative arts therapies and counseling academic team with Dance / Movement Therapy and Art Therapy program faculty, staff, and students.

This is an opportunity to work in a large interdisciplinary department and college, both of which have made a commitment to diversity and social justice.

This position reports to the chairperson of the Department of Creative Arts Therapies, and includes teaching, advisement, administration, scholarship, and service components.

Position commences for the -25 academic year with specific starting date and salary to be negotiated.

Essential Functions

  • Classroom lecture and experiential teaching
  • Academic advisement
  • Culminating Project advisement
  • Administration, including curriculum development, accreditation, course scheduling and cohort development.
  • Collaboration towards integration of music therapy and counseling content and perspectives.
  • Leading admissions and recruitment to the MA in Music Therapy and Counseling program.
  • Hiring and supervision of adjunct faculty for music therapy coursework.
  • Scholarship and representation in professional associations
  • Service to the department, college, university and profession
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in Music Therapy or anticipated PhD completion by September
  • Professional music therapy credential (MT-BC)
  • 5 years of full-time clinical experience in music therapy or its equivalent in part-time work.
  • 2 years teaching of music therapy and related topics (full or part time) at the graduate level, including advisement of master’s culminating projects, and with a record of teaching excellence.
  • A record of past and ongoing professional and scholarly contributions in music therapy.
  • A commitment to actively represent the program and department in the regional, national and international music therapy communities, including some domestic travel.
  • A strong commitment to working in a team-based educational environment with other creative arts therapists and counseling educators.
  • A commitment to the integration of diversity and social justice throughout the curriculum.
  • The ideal candidate will also have a) the necessary education and experience to contribute to the CAT PhD program, and b) scholarship in an area of clinical practice, music therapy methods or music therapy research.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference for those who are counseling licensure eligible.

Additional Information

This is a full-time Faculty position classified as Exempt. The salary offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
