Overview

We are seeking a talented candidate to fill an Senior Associate Scientist position within Alnylam's Research department.

This position is an opportunity to potentially see one's work progress from the bench to the clinic and positively impact patients' lives with metabolic diseases.

The successful candidate will support early development of potential therapeutic programs as part of a multidisciplinary team and be involved in the discovery of RNAi compounds for a indications related to obesity, diabetes and other rare metabolic conditions.

The successful candidate will have background in biological sciences and be technically skilled in basic molecular biology techniques and work with rodent species.

Responsibilities will include designing, developing, and executing studies in rodent obesity models using small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and conducting the associated in vitro molecular-based assays such as qPCR, western blots, and ELISAs.

Passion for science, a desire to learn new techniques, as well as experience and willingness to work with rodents are a must!

This position is onsite and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to study design and execution of studies to characterize molecules for RNAi therapeutic programs, including rodent metabolic disease models
  • Develop and conduct assays such as qPCR, western blot, and ELISA, that support in vivo studies
  • Perform in vitro and cell-based assays to characterize drug activity
  • Perform in vivo procedures in rodents, including administration of therapeutics via established methodologies
  • Analyze and interpret the data
  • Prepare clearly articulated experimental reports and data presentations
  • Prepare of SOPs / protocols
  • Present data to groups within and outside of Research

Qualifications

Minimum B.S. degree in a life sciences-related discipline such as Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or Genetics with 4+ years of experience in laboratory research or a M.

S. degree with 2+ years of experience in laboratory research

  • Proficiency in RNA / DNA / protein analysis techniques, including ELISA, western blotting and qPCR
  • Cell / tissue culture experience
  • Basic rodent in vivo skills (animal handling, subcutaneous / intravenous dosing, blood collection, and necropsy / dissection expertise) is highly desired
  • Experience setting running obese rodent disease models is highly desired
  • Ability to perform and troubleshoot assays independently or with limited direction of supervisor(s) / project leader(s)
  • Demonstrate keen knowledge of experimental design, underlying scientific principles, and the ability to rigorously and independently analyze results, propose future directions and generate clear reports
  • Must be flexible, open to new tasks and challenges and able to work on tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and across functional areas
