Job Summary :

Are you passionate about shaping a thriving, inclusive workplace? The University of Colorado Department of Family Medicine is searching for an experienced HR Manager to lead and actively contribute to our Human Resources team.

In this pivotal role, you'll not only oversee but also directly contribute to essential HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, promotions, terminations, leave management, and payroll.

You'll play a key role in driving our performance management and evaluation processes to new heights. Additionally, you'll collaborate closely with the Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and the DEI team to champion our mission of fostering an inclusive environment that reflects the diverse communities we serve.

Strong communication skills are essential for crafting precise documentation, while adept verbal communication is crucial for conducting productive meetings, facilitating training sessions, and resolving employee concerns with empathy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities :

  • The HR Manager is responsible for all aspects of human resources administration related to the Department of Family Medicine.
  • In conjunction with the HR / Recruiting Specialist and the Faculty Affairs Specialist, is responsible for all recruiting and onboarding activities and new employee orientation for faculty and staff.
  • Identifies opportunities for professional development programs to meet organizational needs, training / cross-training, mentorship programs, employee communications, and other opportunities for improvement and working with appropriate stakeholders to implement.
  • Responsible for articulating complex HR concepts clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and leadership.
  • Remain current on policies and procedures for the above tasks and ensure compliance with all Department, University, state and federal guidelines.
  • Provide education and advice to leadership related to staff and faculty employment and compliance, including documentation and initiation of discipline and discharge procedures and work in concert with human resources at the University of Colorado.
  • Provide assistance in faculty personnel issues under the guidance of the Department Chair, DFA, and Vice Chairs.

Work Location :

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications :

  • A bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience with general HR which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Five (5) or more years of human resources management experience; preferably in a higher education, medical school or health services setting.
  • Experience with diversity, equity and inclusion efforts as they relate to human resources functions.
  • Certification in Human Resources (PHR / SPHR and / or SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP)
  • Demonstrated process improvement experience and experience using technology to streamline processes.
  • Smartsheet experience and proficiency.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to evaluate processes, policies, and exercise good judgment in the interpretation and application of policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask and follow-up.
  • Ability to organize and analyze data.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to solving complex problems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion with information.
  • Ability to negotiate skillfully.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Anticipated Pay Range :

The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $68,000 - $86,000 .

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
