About the Team :

Our Trust & Safety team's commitment is to keep our online community safe. We have invested heavily in human and machine-based moderation to remove harmful content quickly and often before it reaches our general community.

The Trust & Safety Policy team develops and reviews the policies that underpin our Community Guidelines to promote a positive and safe environment for all of our users and content creators to enjoy and express themselves.

As a Lead for North America, you are part of team leadership, driving the development of scalable policy solutions to ensure platform health while applying your deep in-market expertise to guide policy decisions.

You will work closely with a variety of internal partners, including other members of the Product Policy team, Product, Data, Public Policy and Legal.

In addition to policy development and review, you will also support internal teams which identify, triage and remove violative content.

Our Product Policy Team performs a critical function that supports our efforts to address objectionable or disturbing content.

Content that the Product Policy Team interacts with includes images, video, and text related to every-day life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying;

hate speech; child safety; depictions of harm to self and others, and harm to animals.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage cross-team relationships, in particular with senior regional stakeholders, collaborate with Product, Operations, Legal, Public Policy, and Public Relations teams to build consensus on and improve content policies;
  • Build and lead a high-performing policy team, manage cross-team relations and optimize policy development and implementation to deliver high-quality results;
  • Draft, analyze, update and implement policies related to behavioral health including youth safety, mental health and regulated substances for the US and Canadian markets, leveraging insights in line with our global approach to Trust and Safety;
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners and external experts to stay up-to-date on emerging social media trends in the US and Canada to predict and prevent violations of TikTok's Community Guidelines;
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of guidance and training documents related to behavioral health policies and internal Trust & Safety teams working to safeguard the platform;
  • Act as the policy point of contact for North America in coordination with regional and global stakeholders, and respond to content related emergencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

  • 5+ years combined work experience and / or advanced education in developmental psychology, social science, lifespan development, minor safety and wellbeing policies, behavioral or social science, and preferred experience in content policy, brand safety, tech policy, public policy, social media, and / or Trust & Safety;
  • People management experience in leading small or medium sized teams in a fast-paced and at time ambiguous work environment;
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of the US and Canadian markets, including cultural norms and public discourse on content safety considerations;
  • Expansive knowledge of the online youth safety space; content management, and online community;
  • An in-depth understanding of the impact of technology, media, and cultural trends related to youth safety, mental health and regulated substances
  • Demonstrated systematic thought process regarding policy in an applied setting, including the ability to exercise good judgment and presence of mind in high-pressure, ambiguous situations;
  • Optimistic, thoughtful, and a self-starter who can own the ideation, prioritization, and execution of critical behavorial health policy projects.
