Essential Function :

The purpose of the job is to establish and maintain a sterile field and safe environment throughout the surgical procedure, to assess instrumentation and equipment needs, and to anticipate and provide instrumentation and equipment needs for the surgeon's use in a timely manner to enhance patient outcomes.

Demonstratesknowledgeandpracticeofbasicpatientcareconcepts.

Performsand / orprovidesscrubassistanceduringprocedureswhichreflectawarenessofanatomy, necessaryprinciples, skills, supplies,andadequateknowledgebase.

Assiststhecirculatingnurseinimplementingtheperioperativeplanofcaretoinclude : patientpositioning, confirmation / preparationofoperativesite, updatingphysicianpreferencecard, careofoperativespecimensandroomturnover.

Demonstratestheapplicationoftheprinciplesofasepsis.

Adherestounitspecificstandards, policiesandproceduresforaseptictechniques.

Selectspropersterilizationmethodofinstruments / equipment : sterilizespriortoprocedures, asnecessaryandverifiesinstruments aresterile.

Takescorrectiveactionwhenanyunsafepractice, conditionsorbreaksinaseptictechniqueoccurandreportsinformationtothecirculatingnurse.

Demonstratesbasicsurgicalcasepreparationskills.

Assistswithpullingcasesandcheckscasecartforcompleteness, obtainssuppliesandequipmentanddeterminesthemtobeingoodworkingorderbefore a casebegins.

Preparestheoperatingroombyopeningsterilesupplies, instruments, andsuturesbasedonscheduledprocedureandsurgeonpreferencecard.

Followspoliciesforscrubbing, gowning, gloving, settingupbacktable, drapingandcountingwiththecirculatingnurse.

Demonstratestheabilitytoperformtheroleoffirstscrubonallbasicsurgicalcases.

Anticipatestheneedsofthesurgeon, whichincludespassinginstruments, suturesandotheritemsappropriatetotheprocedure.

Establishesandmaintainsandorganizedsterilefield.

Assiststhesurgeonbyretractingtissue, holdinginstrumentationtoprovideexposureandcuttingsutureunderthedirectsupervisionofthesurgeon.

Supply Room Access : enterssupplyroom(s) onnursingunitsasneededtoperformnecessaryjobfunctions. Refrainsfrommanipulatingorremovinganyintravenousfluidsthatarestoredinthearea.

Minimum Required : Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program

Preferred : Experience :

Minimum Required : N / A

Preferred : Previous experience as a surgical technologist

License / Certification :

Minimum Required : BLS certification

Preferred : Surgical Technician certification

Special Skills / Training :

Minimum Required : Pertinent to OR, and Central Supply. Effective communication skills. Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.

Preferred : Surgical consciousnesses and awareness.
