Air Force Civilian Service is currently seeking a full-time General Engineer to work in the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) Minuteman III (MMIII) Systems Directorate, Integration Division, Test and Assessment Branch , at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah.
This position (932413) is an NH-801-03 which has a typical 2024 salary range of $86,962 - $134,435 .
This position is not eligible for full-time telework; situational-based agreements may be available at the discretion of the hiring manager.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the MMIII Test technical subject matter expert providing technical leadership for the assessment of MMIII flight tests that have a direct impact on MMIII Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) - reliability, accuracy, availability, and hardness.
Employee will be part of a dynamic engineering team, working with Department of Defense (DoD) and industry leaders. Team members are expected to operate at a high-performance pace and develop and maintain a radical teaming-centric culture.
This position provides support for the ground-based leg of America’s nuclear deterrence triad.
DUTIES :
- Serves as the MMIII technical subject matter expert for assigned areas and advises on technical design, development, acquisition, test, and operational issues related to requirements, systems engineering, safety, and security.
- Engages with local and geographically dispersed stakeholders including subject matter experts from across AFNWC, Air Force Global Strike Command, support contractors, etc.
to ensure technical activities are successfully planned, coordinated, executed, and assessed.
- Uses and manages various software modeling tools to model the performance / capabilities of the MMIII Weapon System.
- Actively uses Systems Engineering principles and processes in support of multiple testing and assessment activities.
- Communicates strategic vision, issues, and resolutions for the MMIII ground and flight with appropriate stakeholders.
- Delivers the required support for MMIII operational tests, to include pre-briefings and post-analysis briefings.
- Demonstrates ability to determine objectives, make sound risk-based decisions, set priorities, track multiple technical issues, and successfully accomplish organizational goals.
SKILLS :
- Strong engineering background with at least 3 years of experience in test and evaluation of weapon systems with demonstrated expertise related to command-and-control testing, nuclear and environments testing, cyber systems testing, instrumentation, telemetry, and / or integrated systems testing is typically required.
- Experience working with other Government organizations in areas such as acquisitions, engineering support, testing and evaluation, and / or system modeling is highly valued.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of test / systems engineering processes / procedures is highly valued.
- Familiarity with Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) MMIII weapon system is desired.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION :

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and / or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- To qualify as an engineer, employee must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions : OPM Qualification Standards.
- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management Practitioner certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
- In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
