Salary range : $61,897 K-$110,641 K

Schedule : This role is a 10-month position, and is in the Professional Employees' Federation (PEF), the union for faculty members at Bank Street College.

The hours for this position are 9 : 45 AM-5 : 45 PM, Monday through Friday with occasional ( 3 / year) weekend work.

Position and Responsibilities

Bank Street Children's Programs seeks a knowledgeable, collaborative early childhood music teacher who demonstrates a love of music with energy and enthusiasm.

This role includes teaching nursery through 1st Grade classes during school hours and a broader range of ages during After School and other parts of Bank Street's Children's Programs.

The ideal applicant will have a commitment to emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development. A progressive approach to teaching and learning and a proactive value of diversity are expected.

The applicant will also have a familiarity with rock, jazz, folk, contemporary and classical musical genres and embrace singing, rhythm, and the exploration of instruments as community building experiences.

Specific responsibilities include :

Day School Hours

  • Teach a Music curriculum to early childhood students that is responsive to children's developmental capacities and needs
  • Organize and maintain a positive classroom community that reflects curricular work
  • Differentiate instruction to support group and individual learning
  • Document lesson plans and develop a comprehensive music curriculum with guidance from supervisor and in collaboration with other members of the music team
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to support curriculum and children's development
  • Communicate with individual families as needed
  • Present at fall curriculum night
  • Write end of year student reports
  • Organize and lead early childhood assemblies
  • Plan, maintain, and share the music rooms in collaboration with the music team
  • Contribute to internal coverage within the Music Team across the Lower School
  • Fulfill weekly community duties as assigned lunch, recess, early morning care, bus)
  • Support early childhood events including family picnics, admissions sing-alongs, open houses, welcome parties, promotional videos, field day, field trips, Auxiliary Program events, and curriculum related events
  • Attend and participate in weekly faculty meetings
  • Attend and engage in regular planning meetings and supervision meetings
  • Attend to other duties as specified by supervisor and division head

After School Hours

Teach individual and group music lessons to children ages 7 through 14 during after school. These lessons may include guitar classes, keyboard classes, rock band classes or other ensemble classes.

The specific lessons will depend on the areas of the teacher's expertise.

  • Teach after school music enrichment classes for 15 children ages 3 through 6
  • Lead short musical activities for other After School groups
  • In collaboration with After School administration, group students for After School lessons, assess the After School music program for quality and growth, and support miscellaneous After School music logistics
  • Document After School lesson plans and curriculum
  • Support and coordinate After School musical performances which may include string ensemble, rock band, and other concerts
  • Sub for other After School music instructors when needed and available
  • Work with groups during our Kids Club Days

Desired Qualifications & Skill Sets

  • A Bachelors Degree required, master's degree in related field preferred
  • Guitar skills and music literacy required; piano skills desirable; other music instrument knowledge desirable
  • Proficiency with google suite
