Description :
Working onsite under the general direction of Dr. Fox, performs full scope of management responsibilities in a research laboratory, including fiscal / budget management, supervision of staff activities in concert with RA activities rep, inventory management, etc.
Independently performs highly sophisticated experiments. Participates with the principal investigator in the design of experimental protocols.
Interprets experimental results in conference with other researchers.
Qualifications :
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supervises various lab functions including supply inventory, equipment procurement, and staff activities. (Activities in coordination with Dr. Foxs administrator)
Manages research assistant team in concert with PIs including hiring, firing, performance evaluation, disciplinary action, orientation and training.
May be responsible for assisting with financial management of research lab as needed in concert with lab finance team. Additionally may participate in all aspects of grant writing and proposals.
Acts as backup for urgent requests when Dr. Foxs administrator is not available.
Works in concert with Dr. Foxs administrator as needed.
Responsible for the coordination of all regulatory and compliance activities for the lab.
Assists with IRB and DUA requests, including training staff / faculty on these tasks as needed
Carries out independent research projects, which involve the execution of highly, sophisticated techniques.
Contributes to scientific literature and may present the results at hospital and outside meetings.
Trains RA staff and faculty on lab procedures as needed.
All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
BS Required, MS preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible research work experience. Prior supervisory experience required.
SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED :
Must be able to make independent, effective decisions in appropriate situations.
Must possess a scientific imagination commensurate with the independent execution of research projects.
Must have aptitude for technical problem solving.
Ability to effectively supervise others.
Excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth functioning of lab.
Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to logically sequence experiments to maximize research.
Must possess aptitude for budget management.
High level of computer literacy.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Responsible for supervising RA staff including hiring, firing, evaluating and disciplining in coordination with PIs. Will orient and train new staff members.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand / sit for extended periods of time..
