Job Overview

The Senior Director of Development serves as the point person and strategic leader to plan and implement a focused fundraising strategy for Georgetown’s principal, major, planned and leadership gift prospects in all International markets, ensuring strong coordination of advancement staff and university-wide partners.

They serve as the thought partner for all collaborative advancement activity in key regions abroad, with a focus on development for Georgetown’s campaign and international presence and engagement.

In addition to oversight of international advancement strategy for the university, the Senior Director manages a personal portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, many of whom have multiple philanthropic interests at Georgetown.

They are responsible for soliciting gifts ranging from $250,000 to $5 million+ for philanthropic needs university-wide, with a focus on gifts at the higher end of the range.

It is expected that the Senior Director will be in a position to secure $2 5 million annually once the portfolio is established, depending upon the assigned region.

Working closely with the Assistant Vice President, they position will coordinate top prospect strategies with all advancement and university leadership;

and assist colleagues in their management of international prospective and current donors, often coordinating behind-the-scenes.

The Senior Director will institute a personal visit strategy designed to reach both managed prospects within the officer’s own portfolio as well as Georgetown’s most significant prospects within the respective region(s) or market(s) who may be managed by other staff.

They will have an annually established goal of personal visits and expected asks, along with dollars-raised, to promote campaign priorities and move donors along the lifecycle of giving.

While the Senior Director oversees a team (as shown below), they are solely responsible for driving engagement and fundraising activity in one or more of Georgetown’s key international markets.

This includes thoughtful content deployment, regular principal travel, event design and execution and volunteer management.

They manage a team of fundraisers that manage a portfolio based in, or lead / support the advancement strategies of other International markets, including Western Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

As well, they manage up to three professional staff ranging from assistant to senior director level as well as one administrative support position.

Over time, the Senior Director may have the responsibility for recruiting and managing additional portfolio holders.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development, the Senior Director of Development works closely in daily activities with volunteers and donors, Donor Relations, Alumni Relations, Annual Fund, constituent major gifts teams, and other departments within Advancement and across campus.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 10 years of major gift fundraising experience that includes campaign planning and execution - in a higher education setting
  • Leadership experience, including staff supervision
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of constituents, including donors, board members and volunteers as well as alumni, parents, friends, faculty, administrators and internal colleagues.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in meeting major gift and campaign goals.
  • High energy level, flexibility, and a self-motivated / self-aware nature
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills with ability to meet and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to act with diplomacy and confidentiality in dealing with internal and external constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, identify and solve problems, and take initiative
  • Understanding and experience working with international cultures

Pay Range :

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is :

$103,723.00 - $202,778.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
