The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in statistics at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2019.

Position
Applicants must have a solid theoretical and applied background in statistics. Expertise in the areas of statistical learning and Big Data are highly desirable.
The successful candidate will contribute to the statistics community at Cal State Fullerton through teaching, research, professional activities, and service.
Teaching responsibilities will include a wide spectrum of theoretical and applied courses in statistics and probability, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Teaching may also include courses in the mathematics curriculum, depending on background and interest of the applicant. Further responsibilities include conducting research resulting in publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, conducting faculty-student collaborative research, and advising students.
A successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a transdisciplinary Center for Computational and Applied Mathematics and to contribute to the growth of the newly established Statistical Consulting Center within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in statistics or related field must be completed by the appointment date. Preference will be given to candidates who have :
- Teaching experience with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Evidence of strong potential in research, and the potential to supervise undergraduate and master’s level students in research
- Evidence of a strong interest in participating in transdisciplinary collaborative research
- Demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population
- Evidence of a strong commitment to seeking external funding
- The ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
