Job Summary :
The IR Technologist, (VI) is actively involved in the patient procedural environment. They are charged with operating the fluoroscopy unit and providing direct assistance to Interventional Radiologists and / or proceduralist during invasive procedures with image-guided vascular procedures including angioplasty, venography, stenting, thrombolysis and more.
They provide optimum imaging results while applying reasonable efforts to minimize patient and user radiation exposure. The IR Technologist falls under the general supervision of the performing radiologist present and is responsible for safe imaging, establishing, and maintaining sterile space, positioning the patient, patient safety, proper use of equipment.
Responsible for maintaining and assessing inventory needs, as well as patient education and follow up when applicable.

Essential Duties :
This position requires regular, reliable attendance and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, as the consequences of even a minor mistake can be significant for patients and providers.
- Performs IR exams in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Accurately interpret physician's imaging instructions.
- Have a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal anatomy, physiology, radiation safety, interventional procedures, interventional supplies, and sterile technique.
- Administers contrast media orally and intravenously, performing venipuncture for the administration of I.V. contrast and sedation.
- Provides liaison with radiologists for quality critique of exam images.
- Communicates to all members of the IR team quality issues, equipment issues, protocol changes, and procedure changes.
- Maintains documentation to ensure compliance.
- Participates in risk management and performance improvement initiatives.
- Provides patient instruction following basic patient monitoring guidelines and communicates pre- and post-care instructions to patients.
- Assists radiologist performing imaging and invasive procedures.
- Reviews and verifies patient records are up to date and accurate. Make appropriate changes to the computer system and to the patient's medical record.
- Assists with other medical office needs, including scheduling, telephone inquiries and data entry.
- Performs other duties as necessary and assigned to keep the department running smoothly.
- Must be flexible with work schedule as hours are subject to change based on patient needs.
- Required to maintain current state license through OBMI and ARRT.
- Must have the ability to work cohesively with others.
- Participates in inventory management.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience :
Current OBMI state license and ARRT required. ARRT Registration in Vascular Interventional Radiology (VI) strongly preferred, but will allow registry to be obtained within two years of employment.
ACLS Certification is required within 90 days of employment. Functional knowledge of Epic EMR, Sectra and Royal systems strongly preferred.
