Overview
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to :
- Admit and manage inpatients with general adult medical illnesses. This includes performing histories and physical examinations, rounding on patients, writing progress notes, discharge planning and timely completion of discharge summaries.
- Work closely with specialists and primary care physicians to ensure that inpatients receive continuous high-quality care.
- Provision of 24 / 7 consultative support to inpatients admitted to surgical service.
- Demonstrate interest in engaging in ongoing process improvement with respect to measures of quality care, patient safety, patient satisfaction, patient and family education, utilization management, cost control.
- Take an active role in optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the inpatient care process from admission through discharge.
- Perform inter-professional rounds on assigned medical awards, managing, and participating in the patients' care.
- Participate in quality management / assurance and chart review activities.
- Participate in and at times lead, clinical and education administrative committees, task groups, or special projects.
- Serve on Medical Staff committees.
- Experience with routine Hospitalist procedures preferred but not required.
- Provide teaching for internal medicine residents, medical students, advanced practice nurse practitioner students, and physicians assistants students as assigned.
- Provide triage services for coordination of admission of patients currently in an ambulatory setting including the emergency room and / or clinic.
Discuss all medical admissions with emergency room, ICU, and clinic physicians to ensure clinical appropriateness of admission to general medical floors.
Discuss with external attending providers, the possible transfer of appropriate Veterans from outlying hospitals / Emergency Departments.
Work Schedule : 7 days on, then 7 days off. Hours : 7 : 00 am - 7 : 00pm or 7 : 00pm to 7 : 00 am. Possible rotations each year to nights, to distribute load evenly.

Client Description
VA Western New York Healthcare System, part of VA Health Care Upstate New York, consists of two health care facilities in Buffalo and Batavia, as well as community based outpatient clinics in Dunkirk, Jamestown, Lackawanna, Lockport, Niagara Falls, Olean and Springville.
The Buffalo VA Medical Center opened in 1950 and provides medical, surgical, mental health and long term care services through a range of inpatient and outpatient programs.
It is the main referral center for cardiac surgery, cardiology and comprehensive cancer care for central and western New York and northern Pennsylvania.
The Batavia facility opened its doors in 1933. It provides geriatric and rehabilitation services, separate residential post traumatic stress disorder units for men and women, and outpatient services.
In 1995, a New York State Veterans Home was built on the Batavia grounds making additional extended care available.entral and western New York and northern Pennsylvania.
