Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., seeks Senior Engineers Applied Science in New York, NY.
Develop plans for demolition of structures by implosion through mechanics-based computational models and numerical calculations.
Analyses shall consider applying collapse mechanism principles through the modeling of material non-linearities and the dynamic response of the structure.
US building codes will be invoked in developed plans. Familiarity with essential concepts behind structural standards will be required.
Analyze and assess nonlinear behavior of different materials in the context of structural systems, including that of reinforced concrete, steel, and aluminum.
Develop machine learning algorithms for automated processing of non-destructive evaluation data as part of the assessment of the integrity of structural systems.
Develop machine learning algorithms for automated processing of non-destructive evaluation data for the assessment of fatigue impacts and estimation of the remaining useful life of
materials and structural systems.
Leverage structural design knowledge to validate anomaly identification models, incorporating engineering principles to enhance the accuracy of damage detection and failure prediction algorithms.
Develop ultrasound and eddy current based Non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and testing methods for detecting anomalies in steel structural subjected to cyclical loads, such as those
encountered in rail infrastructure systems.
Use control and systems theory in support of intelligent infrastructure systems.
Use control theory and signals approaches to design experiments for smart infrastructure systems.
Develop detailed technical reports reflecting the research and development work undertaken, with clear statements of findings and recommendations, under the supervision and review of senior technical staff.
Develop presentation materials, using Microsoft PowerPoint, to summarize the approach, findings, and recommendations of a project, appropriate for client briefings and updates.
Presentation materials will be developed under the supervision of senior technical staff and project management leaders.
Requires a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field plus 2 years of related experience.
- Requires 2 years of experience in Structural design and dynamic analysis; 2 years of experience in American and international building codes;
- 2 years of experience in Analysis of material fatigue and nonlinear behavior; 2 years of experience in Python programming language;
2 years of experience in Development of technical reports; and 2 years of experience in Independent R&D. 25% domestic travel as needed.
Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $91,000 - $91,000 . This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law.
It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York.
Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law.
Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law.
A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
