J3 Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping ALL students achieve grade-level reading proficiency and develop into lifelong learners. We partner directly with schools to provide targeted reading intervention and support for 4th-grade students reading below grade level.

We are seeking passionate part-time Reading Coaches (independent contractors) to deliver small-group reading instruction using the research-based SIPPS curriculum. Coaches support students in building reading confidence, improving comprehension skills, and achieving grade-level proficiency. Contractors manage their own schedule within program requirements and are responsible for their own taxes and insurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver small-group reading instruction (max 6 students) using the SIPPS curriculum
  • Track student progress, maintain records, and complete required reports
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports student growth
  • Coordinate with school staff and J3 staff on student enrollment and family communication
  • Attend occasional training, events, or program material pickups (mileage reimbursed)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • 3+ years experience working with students in an urban school setting
  • Strong understanding of data-driven instruction
  • Effective communication with students, caregivers, and educators
  • Reliable transportation for travel between school locations
  • Commitment to professional growth
  • Preferred

  • Master’s degree or Reading Specialist experience
  • California Teaching Credential
  • Experience with SIPPS curriculum
  • Bilingual (Spanish / English or Armenian / English)
  • Schedule & Compensation

  • Duration : End of August – End of April (schedules provided by partner schools)
  • Approx. 13 hours / week (3 days in-person, ~4 hours / day + 1 weekly 1-hour online meeting)
  • Compensation : $33–38 / session, commensurate with experience
  • Mileage reimbursed for approved material pickups (up to 3 times / year)
