Job Title : Registered Nurse Job Specialty : Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12-hour days, minimum every other weekend, first to float Guaranteed Hours : 36 hours per week Experience : Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience License : Required Certifications : ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have : Neuro or CV experience, successful completion of Dysrhythmia Exam prior to acceptance, and pass / fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation Job Description : Work in a 32-bed Surgical ICU with trauma, neuro, and specialized surgical cases.
- Provide care in a Level 1 trauma center with common diagnoses including trauma from falls, gunshot wounds, motor vehicle accidents, and blunt force.
- Manage patients with conditions such as CVA, status post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, and ARDS.- Titrate drips commonly used in the ICU setting : Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin.
- Serve in a leadership capacity as a Charge Nurse when required, without patient assignments.- Operate and interpret data from associated equipment such as Dreager, Hamilton, and Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators, as well as V60s Bipap and Airvo.
- No Monitor Techs on the unit; RNs must interpret their own cardiac strips using GE monitors.- Participate in self-scheduling, with shifts balanced as needed for unit requirements.
- Float between different ICUs, including a medical / cardiac 36-bed unit and a 12-bed overflow unit, based on unit needs.
- Comply with Navy scrub and dress code.- Undergo a 1-2 days unit or department-specific orientation with skills validation in trauma, neuro, and specialized devices.
- Adapt to varying weekend requirements, with three weekend shifts in a four-week schedule.- May be subject to cancellation up to three times per contract period, with the possibility of full-hour payment in lieu of cancellation.
- Utilize Cerner for charting.- Experience in a level 1 facility preferred, but not required. Prior experience in similar-sized units is also preferred.
- Engage with 24 / 7 hospitalist or intensivist support and respiratory therapists available in the ICU.
