Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our General Medical Oncology team.

The ideal candidate has exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience. They will work with a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care services to patients with various cancer types, including breast, GU, and thoracic.

Primary hours will be Monday-Friday day shift with flexibly to meet patient needs. No evening or weekend call. We invite you to apply to work with team of oncology caregivers who are dedicated to outstanding patient care.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and preform complete physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level judgement this includes prescribing appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Participate in clinical research projects.
  • Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising and back-up physicians and APP colleagues
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
  • Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

  • Nurse Practitioners : Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants : Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification

BLS required.

License

  • Nurse Practitioners : Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
  • Physician Assistants : Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Experience

1+ years of oncology APP experience strongly preferred.
