Communication Services Analyst Supervisor for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

Supervises Real-Time Captioners and American Sign Language Interpreters as well as agency Real-time Captioners and ASL Interpreters for deaf and hard of hearing students to meet University compliance obligations. Coordinates communication services for deaf and hard of hearing (DHOH) students; supervises Communication Services Providers / CSPs; recruits, hires, and supervises personnel; responsible for fiscal management of function and service delivery policy. Provides realtime transcription or ASL interpretation of courses and provides captions or ASL interpretation of classroom and Internet media for DHOH students.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

  • Certification from one of the following, California Court Reporters Association (CCG or CRG), National Court Reporters Association (CRC), National Verbatim Reporters Association (RVR) OR one of the Certifications from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (CT, CI, NIC Master, NIC Advanced, NIC, CDI) or National Association of the Deaf (NAD IV, NAD V) AND be a current, active member of the Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf in good standing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, or Completion of a Court Reporting Program and / or equivalent experience as a sign language interpreter or realtime captioner in the Post SecondaryPost-Secondary setting.
  • Formal training from a Court Reporting / Stenography program or ASL Interpreter Training program and / or equivalent experience as CART and captioning provider, or training and experience as an ASL interpreter.
  • Supervisory experience and skills to recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and mentor staff and interns.
  • Management experience including experience in planning, analyzing, and evaluating needs, options, and approaches with translating knowledge into new contexts, interpreting and comparing facts, predicting consequences, using methods / concepts in new situations, solving problems, making decisions based on reasoned argument, and verifying conclusions based on evidence.
  • Analytic skills to assess context, resources, and available technologies and to collaborate with experts, stakeholders, and others as necessary to develop innovative strategies and solutions.
  • Knowledge of technology, software, & equipment for CART and captioning (including remote services and mobile device delivery methods); and web research.
  • Oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to communicate respectfully and effectively with diverse audiences and present complex concepts and recommendations for management decision-making purposes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field such as Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, or Completion of a Court Reporting Program and / or a minimum of five years as a professional sign language interpreter or realtime captioner.
  • Experience with scheduling realtime captioners and / or sign language interpreters while following complex technical procedures in a demanding, client- service-oriented environment with strict yet evolving deadlines, complex scheduling requirements, and minimal tolerance for errors or delays.

  • Department Overview

    The Student Disability Center (SDC) oversees the provision of academic accommodations, adjustments, and services for approximately 4,100 disabled students to facilitate equal access to the University's educational programs.
