The Opportunity

This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions.

We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.

The Scientist I executes and conducts research, development, or scientific / technical activities. This individual may facilitate, develop or recommend improvements and / or new procedures related to products or processes.

Lastly, this individual plans and presents data within the team, with supervision.

What you’ll work on

With oversight, executes experiments following pre-designed protocols, accomplishes established milestones and summarizes data.

May create and develop new methods for project advancement with guidance from more experienced team members.

Conducts experiments of moderately complex projects, seeks advice when needed from more experienced colleagues for more complicated technical and design challenges.

Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Recommends options for other experiments, providing insights on techniques and procedures and solicits feedback from more advanced team members.
  • Works on problems of moderate and diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Proposes potential solutions to problems.
  • Possible CFT member providing input to project planning and execution. May plan and work on projects of smaller complexity under limited supervision.
  • Develops plan and presents data within the team in conjunction with oversight.
  • Participates in routine maintenance and lab safety.
  • Troubleshoots instrumentation or experiments; recognizes and assists with the resolution of basic technical problems. With minimal guidance, can write verification and validation protocols / reports and order materials needed to complete procedures.

Documents development work, writing technical reports and cost estimates.

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree / B.S in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics; with a minimum of 2-3 years industry experience.
  • Masters / M.S. with 0 to 2 years experience.
  • Working knowledge of experimental approaches / protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data.
  • Awareness of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologic.

The base pay for this position is $65,900.00 $131,900.00.

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
