Position Description : In support of the Veteran Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health Care System, the Registered Nurses will perform a variety of nursing duties at the various VA facilities in the greater Los Angeles area.
Duties of the position include but are not limited to :
Provides direct and indirect nursing care by contributing to the patients assessment, determining priorities, identifying nursing measures and therapeutic objectives and evaluating outcomes.
tPerforms scrub and circulating duties n the Cardiovascular Lab and Operating Room
tCirculates, assists, and operates equipment for all the various Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology Lab and Noninvasive Cardiology Lab procedures.
These procedures include, but are not limited to, diagnostic and interventional procedures performed within the Cardiology Labs.
tMonitors patients during Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology and Noninvasive procedures, including continuous ECG and hemodynamic monitoring, identification of cardiac arrhythmias, response to medications and titration of vasoactive IV medications in appropriate labs.
tInterviews patient / family appropriately reporting concerns and needs and / or systems issues during preoperative assessment
tCollaborates with physicians and ancillary services to determine desired postoperative outcomes; issues, and institutes a plan of care to achieve outcomes
tObtain patient history and pertinent family history
tAssess patient and plan appropriate nursing care.
tDocument plan of care and care given in patients medical record.
tVerify transcription of physicians orders, no verbal orders are to be accepted.
tCarry out prescribed physicians orders and document inpatient medical record.
tCommunicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and / or physician as appropriate.
tRe-assess patients condition and revise plans of care based on identified nursing problem.
tAdminister medication and Intravenous (IV) therapies.
tPossess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used emergency drugs and their location on crash cart.
tAssess and document patient response to medication that has been administered.
tBe able to interpret cardiac rhythms and their implications
tReorganize and initiate appropriate measures in emergencies / therapies and surgical / diagnostic procedures that shall be accomplished.
tInstruct patient / family regarding prescribed medications / therapies and surgical procedures that shall be accomplished.
tAssess patient / family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions and record patient / family demonstrated level of understanding.
tOperate defibrillator, EKG, machines and cardiac monitor and other emergency technical equipment.
tCare for patients with Swan-Gans catheters, central venous catheters, arterial lines and mechanical ventilators.
tParticipate in discharge planning as appropriate.
tBe able to initiate life saving measures in the absence of physicians.
tAssure content and correctness of a prepared report and sign the document to validate the content.
tMaintain neat, personal appearance and maintain professional decorum.
tConsistently demonstrate helpful, courteous, and respectful conduct at all times.
tRespect patients privacy including but not limited to visual and auditory privacy.
tMay accept a verbal order in compliance with the liability policy.
tIntake and output are assessed every shift, and more frequently if indicated by specific standard nursing drug care.
tReview all laboratory data and electronic medical records.
tResponsible for feeding tubes which are aspirated for gastric residual prior to every intermittent feed and every four (4) hours for continuous tube feedings.
tPerform urinary catheter care by using soap and water cleaning techniques every twelve hours or as required.
tPerform central line and ventilator care in compliance with HCS policy.
tPerform skin assessment and initiate measures to prevent Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcer (HAPU).
tEnsure that medication orders from the previous shift have been noted and either carried our or transcribed onto the medical records appropriately.
Additional Information : MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Graduate of approved nursing program through an accredited nursing school approved by the State at the time the program was completed
tMust possess current nursing license in at least one (1) state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia
tMinimum 1 year direct patient care experience within the last three years
tAbility to be favorably credentialed
tCurrent BLS issued through the American Heart Association
tMust be willing to work 8- or 12-hour shift
tMust be willing to work any day or shift Monday-Sunday
tMust be willing to work various shifts as required
tMust be proficient in spoken and written English.
tProficiency with computer and common office equipment, as well as with MS Office products required.
tMust be able to multi-task, be detail oriented, organized, and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
tMust be able to perform duties in a stressful and high paced environment without physical limitations.
tMust be able to exercise independent judgement, flexibility, organizational skills, and the ability to utilize an interdisciplinary approach in the provision of nursing care
tAbility to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and / or command priorities
tMust be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and carry up to 10ft
tMust be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
