Description

Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, Women’s Advocates is known to many as the first shelter in the nation for people escaping domestic violence.

Today, Women’s Advocates offers a robust continuum of safety services, including violence prevention education, phone-based crisis intervention, emergency help for victims escaping violence, and sustained safety, advocacy, and housing support for victim-survivors as they begin their journey to a safer, more independent life.

The LADC is responsible for providing rehabilitative and recovery-focused quality services and expertise to help assist shelter residents and participants in our Housing Stability program to experience success in their recovery, and to provide advice to colleagues when interacting with residents and participants requiring support around chemical dependency.

This position is responsible for counseling and case management services to residents and program participants of Women's Advocates.

Strong emphasis is placed on engaging participants and delivery of clinical services through multidisciplinary teamwork and coordination.

These services include outreach, needs assessment, planning and resource identification, service linkages, monitoring and ongoing reassessment, and client advocacy.

The LADC will follow a harm reduction model of service delivery and follow Women's Advocates policies in regard to harm reduction.

This position is full-time, 40 hours / week, on-site. Some evenings may be required.

The pay for this position is budgeted at $72,000, and benefits are available.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

LADC Services :

  • Establish positive and trusting relationship with residents and participants.
  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention, assess needs, and develop treatment plans, engage, and motivate participants in working toward recovery goals.
  • Conduct and properly document a Rule 25 and / or Treatment Plan for each individual on your caseload. Update this assessment or plan as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain individual treatment plans to address chemical dependency needs and addiction issues.
  • Will assist residents and participants in obtaining medications used to treat opioid addiction during recovery as directed.
  • LADC will train staff yearly on use of overdose medications, (such as Narcan) and will have oversite on supplies available for staff use.
  • Conduct regular individual treatment sessions with residents / participants who wish to converse with an LADC.
  • Facilitate support groups; provide group treatment sessions as needed or assigned.
  • Educate and involve family members or other loved ones in the treatment process when necessary.
  • Coordinate care with community partners for all clients.
  • Coordinate referral Transportation Services as needed.
  • Facilitate communication among others involved, to provide coordination and define service direction to attain clients’ goals.
  • When required, refer clients to outside sources or agencies that can better address their specific needs.
  • Participate in weekly CARE team meetings updating staff on participants, as able, with confidentiality and compliance to all privacy laws.

Collaborate with other staff to provide appropriate supports and presence for individual treatment progress.

  • Coordinate with social and medical agencies, healthcare providers, and community outreach programs to provide clients with needed services.
  • Works in partnership with the Child and Family Advocates to schedule childcare for individual and group sessions.
  • Provide crisis management and intervention when necessary.
  • Prepare monthly reports for supervisor and maintain statistical data.
  • Respond to other duties as assigned by the Director of Shelter Advocacy Services

Data Tracking :

  • Ensure services are documented in individual records so information is readily available, results of services can be determined, and record keeping standards are met.
  • Complete and maintain necessary clinical documentation for client records and keep files current.
  • Follow all program, state and Federal guidelines for timely process and documentation. Enter information about all services provided into HIPAA compliant Client Track system daily.
  • Responsible for paperwork in files (organized, correct file tabs, and file management).

Staff & Self Development :

  • Provide expertise to the team in prevention, psycho education, screening, assessing, planning treating and monitoring progress in the substance abuse area
  • Keep current with evidence-based practices, remaining mindful of a duty to provide culturally responsive programming, and staying within acceptable utilization, which is congruent with the program mission, policies, and procedures.
  • Educate staff and clients on stress and trauma coping mechanisms.
  • Stay up to date on new treatments, protocols, and licensure requirements within the field.· Stays current on organization policies and procedures by regularly reviewing policies and attending trainings provided by WA.
  • Attend training and meetings as required by the position.

Requirements

  • The LADC shall be qualified under Minnesota Law as a Mental Health Practitioner as follows :
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields from an accredited college or university and has 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness.
  • Holds an active Minnesota Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) license. Must be licensed and in compliance with the appropriate licensure board, i.

e. board of Behavioral Health & Therapy. Must agree to maintain current license and inform supervisor immediately of any change in licensure status.

  • 3-5 years of experience providing professional chemical dependency services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of systems of violence and trauma, including inter-generational effects of historical trauma.
  • Experience and / or training in group facilitation.
  • Experience with and / or commitment to working in a diverse, continuum of services in a fast-paced, growing organization.
  • Experience with / knowledge of 245G statutes.
  • Experience working with victim-survivors sheltering in hotel programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to actively listen.
  • Good computer skills with demonstrated ability in Microsoft office products and database entry.
  • Ability to prioritize, handle a variety of tasks and be self-directed.
  • Ability to handle client, administrative and personnel information with complete confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience with people of diverse cultural, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Experience in using the concepts and methods of treatment of CD issues.
  • Strong engagement and assessment skills required.
  • Must be ambulatory and able to negotiate stairways.
  • Ability to perform CPR, first aid, and respond to emergency situations to include administering Narcan / Naloxone.
  • Valid driver’s license with current insurance and a reliable motor vehicle.
  • Criminal background check and is required for this position.
  • Second language preferred.
