Summary of Role :
Come join the team at a gold medal award-winning park district! We are looking for passionate, dedicated Early Childhood Professionals to work in our thriving half day preschool program for children ages 2-5 years old.
Under the direction of the Early Childhood Manager, the Assistant Teacher is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of participants in the Glencoe Park District Early Learning Center.
This is a part-time, 20+ / - hours per week position M-F 11 : 30 AM-4 PM, additional hours may be available depending on interest.
The Early Learning Center runs September-May and follows the school district calendar with opportunities to work Preschool Day Off programming and Summer Camps.
This role would be working with our Kindergarten Readiness program.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assist the Lead Teacher with lesson planning and implementation.
- Take responsibility for upkeep of classroom, equipment and facilities.
- Assist children in clean-up activities; keep all cleaning charts updated.
- Assist with carline pick up and drop off
- Shall assist children in establishing good toileting and personal hygiene habits.
- Supervise all activities to ensure safety.
- Interact directly with the children throughout the day speak with the children at their eye level; be seated on the floor during group times;
interact with the children during free play and large motor activities.
- Be willing to participate in activities leading to professional growth in child development.
- Maintain prompt hours; notify manager in event of illness.
- Ensure compliance with all DCFS policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Follow all policies of the center and of the Glencoe Park District.
- Attend staff meetings, school functions, and complete any other assigned duties.
Qualifications and Education Requirements :
Must meet all necessary DCFS qualifications including a high school diploma or equivalency certificate and be at least 19 years of age or older.
College coursework, including 6 hours in Early Childhood Education, and experience in a DCFS-licensed classroom is preferred.
CPR Certification and Child Development Associate Certification also preferred. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
Knowledge and Skills :
Must be able to assist in the planning and supervision of activities which promote healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development in each child.
Shall use developmentally appropriate discipline methods. Shall possess good oral and written communication skills. The assistant teacher shall develop and contribute to harmonious work place within the center.
Shall display emotional maturity when working with children, parents, and staff. Should show respect and cooperation towards children, co-workers, and parents.
The teacher assistant is expected to display a warm, nurturing and cheerful personality. All employees must pass a criminal background check and drug test which is paid for by the Glencoe Park District.
