JOB SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Assistant Director of Student Financial Services (SFS) at Saint Louis University's School of Medicine (SOM) operates under general supervision to orchestrate the daily activities of medical school financial aid programs.
Serving as a dedicated student and parent financial aid counselor, the Assistant Director plays a pivotal role in assessing aid eligibility for applicants, explaining financing options, and institutional policies and procedures.
This role demands meticulous attention to detail, a deep understanding of financial aid regulations, and the ability to navigate complex financial landscapes to ensure equitable access to education.
This role contributes to the development and execution of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall financial wellness of students within the medical school community.
JOB DUTIES :
- Collaborate and communicate regularly with the Offices of Undergraduate Medical Education at the School of Medicine on SFS services.
- Develop, implement, and oversee SFS SLU SOM policies and procedures, including financial aid and financial literacy initiatives.
- Manage scholarships and scholarship budgets, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of resources.
- Provide leadership and direction to the SFS SLU SOM Coordinator, fostering professional growth and performance excellence.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive communication calendar, coordinating all communications and ensuring compliance with university guidelines and policies.
- Provide leadership and support for all Counseling & Outreach policies, procedures, personnel, initiatives, and efforts, fostering a supportive environment for students.
- Oversee all development and updates to the SFS website, ensuring alignment with university guidelines and policies.
- Provide a physical presence on campus for oversight, communication, and collaboration with medical students and school of medicine leadership
- Provide customer service via email, phone, and in-person.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES :
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and university academic policies, as well as scholarship and financial aid procedures.
- Familiarity with the legislative process as it pertains to higher education and financial aid.
- Strong advising skills to guide students through complex financial aid processes.
- Exceptional interpersonal and human relations skills to foster collaboration and teamwork.
- Effective supervisory skills to lead and inspire a diverse team.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective team-oriented working relationships, and to provide training and mentorship as needed.
- Capacity to assess situations and needs accurately and provide appropriate assistance.
- Strong prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to facilitate discussions and coordinate efforts across various stakeholders.
- Discretion and sensitivity in handling confidential matters.
- Professional tact in responding to inquiries and resolving issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's degree; supplemented with five (5) years of related work experience.
