The purpose of this role is to build opportunities for transfer school students to connect to viable career pathways during high school and increase overall graduation rates.

The DCC will create layered opportunities in collaboration with school leadership that allow students to graduate high school on a college and career pathway This candidate will include multiple approaches to engaging students : in the classroom, on college campuses, and in industry.

  • Title : Director of Career Connections Reports To : SVP of Partnership Schools Location : 173 Conover St, Brooklyn, NY Hours : 35 Hours / Week;
  • Non- Exempt; Ability to work some weekends, including overnight when necessary Salary : $65,000 - $72,000 MAJOR DUTIES : Life Skills Development- craft programs and opportunities that build leadership and life skills required for upward mobility Financial Literacy- connect students with the education to enhance their understanding of financial planning Career Exposure- develop partnerships that create pathways for students to get direct exposure to career paths & professionals Career Exploration- connect with partners to create quality internships and job opportunities that lead to increasing economic and educational standing Manage all aspects of GSS’ economic mobility programming across three transfer schools Design post-secondary opportunities in collaboration with each GSS transfer school leadership team to embed certification programs into the structures of the school Collaborate with each school’s post-secondary team to ensure students are engaged in certification programs Create and maintain strong partnerships with key post-secondary stakeholders to implement robust experiences (ie Kingsborough, Guttman, Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, Shared Lane, RETI Center, etc) Facilitate bi-weekly meetings of Economic Mobility Specialists and Internship Coordinators to create a community of practice that examines student process on post-secondary path connections Facilitate professional development for staff on next best bet career choices for students Facilitate programming for alumni that engages them in post-secondary pathways Regularly meet with school leaders to gauge progress Create and facilitate transfer school alumni network Conduct periodic surveys of school alums and prepare statistical reports Maintain all required statistical and narrative documentation Participate in staff training and meetings, including school retreats and professional development Travel between our 3 transfer schools in the division;
  • travel to community workforce partners and Cuny's as well as college visits, in NYC and out of state. Extensive planning and facilitation of work with multiple stakeholders from DOE, CUNY and workforce partners Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS : BA preferred with at least 3 years of supervisory experience or HSD with at least 10 years of relevant work experience Must have at least 3 years of supervisory experience At least 3 years of experience working with transfer schools and students required Must have at least 5 years of project management experience;
  • managing multi-layer project deliverables across systems, ie DOE, workforce, and CUNY Must have experience meeting private funder deliverables, ideally Robin Hood Foundation Extensive budget management experience;

fiscally responsible and experience executing budget goals. Prior workshop / seminar development and implementation experience required Prior college and career counseling experience required Knowledge of NYC DOE high school graduation requirements including CDOS (Career Development and Occupational Studies) credential required Must have a proven track record of successful execution of private grants and deliverables Strong ability to create engaging and relevant activities for students and their families connected to college and career Strong collaboration, facilitation and curriculum development skills required Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications Must have excellent organizational, teamwork, verbal, and written communication skills Must have a commitment of work from a strength-based and / or youth development perspective Additional Information Good Shepherd Services is an equal opportunity employer that is proudly committed to becoming an anti-racist and multicultural organization that stands up for justice and equity.
