Professional Search Group OC is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Staff Accountant to join our clients accounting team within the construction industry.
The ideal Staff Accountant will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly in the construction sector, and experience with job cost accounting.
This role will support the financial operations of Professional Search Group 's client, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with industry standards.
Staff Accountant Responsibilities :
- Manage day-to-day accounting tasks, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of financial statements and reports.
- Maintain accurate job cost records, tracking expenses, and ensuring proper allocation of costs to projects.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including subcontractor payments, vendor invoices, and client billing.
- Monitor project budgets and provide timely financial reports to project managers and senior management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting regulations, including tax requirements specific to the construction industry.
- Assist with audits, both internal and external, by providing required documentation and supporting information.
- Support the payroll process, including time tracking for project-specific labor costs.
- Perform financial analysis to help identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Work closely with the project management team to ensure accurate financial tracking of construction projects.
Staff Accountant Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting practices, including job cost accounting and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Xero highly preferred).
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create financial models and analyze data.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Knowledge of state and federal tax regulations related to the construction industry is a plus.
