DESCRIPTION :
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant works to ensure that patients are receiving the best medical, nursing, psychosocial and spiritual care possible, while upholding the mission of Obria within the scope of care that has been determined by the board of directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Ensure that the patient feels welcome upon her arrival for the physical examination.
- Provision of general full spectrum obstetrical care.
- Provision of well woman care including pap smears and breast exams, performing the physical examination within the acceptable standards of care.
- Responsible for the appropriate documentation in the patient record and for the preparation of a complete medical record for each patient contact per existing office policies.
- Review and / or completed history, assesses vital signs, documents information on specific forms and completes necessary patient forms.
- Reinforces the humanity of the unborn child with the patient as appropriate.
- Provide health and wellness education to the patient and family and implements a therapeutic care plan.
- Ensure that infection control guidelines are followed.
- Complete necessary documentation on appropriate forms.
- Order labs per standing order or according to medical director's discretion, consistent with the scope of practice established by the board of directors, and according to the standard of care for prenatal care and screening for sexually transmitted diseases.
- Work with the Staff and volunteers to develop and maintain a smooth flow-through and communication between the pregnancy center and medical clinic.
- Participate in chart review, special committees and other quality assurance mechanisms, including Quality Improvement projects according to AAAHC standards.
- Participate in a yearly review between the NP and Medical Director / Supervising Physician.
- Perform periodic medical record audits for peer review.
- Participate in special projects including but not limited to AAAHC accreditation, upon request.
- Participate in staff executive team, medical team, and in-service meetings
- Test for sexually transmitted diseases and infections (STD / STI) and STD / STI education
- Make referrals for follow up care to approved providers, when appropriate.
Note : "approved" means those providers who are on the referral list. This requires that providers uphold Obria Medical Clinics mission, have been screened by the Executive Director, Medical Director and Clinical Manager, and do not present a conflict of interest in self-referrals.
- Abide by professional standards of care, following the original Hippocratic Oath (no referrals for abortions).
- Maintain professional license and show proof of same.
- Stay current with developments in health care relevant to their practice at Obria.
- Responsible for facilitating Supportive Pregnancy Care group discussions, conducted once or twice a month during the employee's scheduled shift.
Materials will be provided by the Social Services Director for each session that is to be facilitated. ESSENTIAL SKILLS :

- Willingness to function as a member of the pregnancy medical clinic team when needed.
- Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner may be required to perform the
following :
o Pregnancy testing and counseling
o Supervision of volunteers
o Answering the phone and scheduling appointments o Facility maintenance and operations
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Master's degree in the science of nursing.
- Experience of 2+ years in obstetrics and gynecology office practice and able to work independently to care of patients.
- Certification to provide limited obstetrical ultrasounds.
- Comply with state and professional continuing education requirements.
- Annual review of OSHA, center policies and procedures, and infection control regulations.
- Receives annual evaluation by the Medical Director.
- Current CPR Certification.
- Current APRN License
- Current RN License
- Current BLS Certification
- Current Driver's License
- Ultrasound Training Certification
- Periodic Re-Evaluation of Ultrasound Competency
COMPUTER & EQUIPMENT SKILLS :
- Has sufficient knowledge of computer operations
- Proficient in Microsoft Programs : Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point
- Able to use typical office equipment
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS :
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the day
- Able to tolerate extended periods of time at a computer station or work desk including the ability to operate computer keyboards / mouse, and office equipment
- Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses and vision sufficient to use office equipment and drive a car safely
- Hearing and speech within normal ranges, sufficient for clear / concise communication face to face, and to speak on the telephone
- Requires some physical activity, which includes regular clinic cleaning and lifting up to 10 pounds regularly and approximately 25 pounds occasionally
- Exposed to typical office environment conditions, which may include a very busy atmosphere, and loud
noises / surroundings
