Principal Software Engineer I

As a Principal Software Engineer I on this team, you will lead a high performing video service engineering team that supports our innovative customer experiences on the Charter Spectrum TV App, traditional video and Charters next generation products.

This role leads complex, high priority investigations across Charters video platforms and serves as a mentor to help guide and train other engineers on the team.

This position will evaluate the needs, time limitations, and system limitations when investigating and resolving video platform issues, must remain up to date on new technologies and be able to translate these skills to the team.

• Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Contribute to the technical direction and execution for software solutions created (includes information architecture, software architecture, software design, testing, automation, analytics and instrumentation).
• Troubleshoot systems across video platforms, IP and traditional
• Analyze, revise and document difficulties in existing system logic.
• Potential to lead multiple teams spanning various technical disciplines
• Manage high performing teams by leading, developing, training, hiring, and providing effective coaching to attract and foster talent.
• Regularly attending team meetings to discuss projects, brainstorm ideas, and put forward solutions to issues.
• Take ownership and make technical decisions on complex platform investigations.
• Develop and implement video platform troubleshooting according to proposals.
• Estimate scope of work and implement troubleshooting and resolution proposals.
• Create project documentation.
• Keep current with trends and technological innovations in the industry in order to contribute to the execution of proofs-of-concept for new investigative approaches.
• Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders to define and develop technology strategy, technology standards, roadmaps and practices.
• Participate in collaborations with business and technical teams to review conflicts / gaps between functional goals and existing capabilities.
• Adhere to best practices for code development, version control, continuous integration / delivery, and test / build automation where applicable.
• Comfortable evangelizing mobile app and web technologies across the organization.

WHAT YOULL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

• Experience : 8+ years of software engineering / video support experience
• Education : Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
• Technical skills :
• Extensive experience and knowledge of IP Video Delivery, platforms, players and applications
• Extensive experience with monitoring technologies (Kibana, OpenSearch, Datadog, Splunk, etc)
• Experience using or supporting Angular, Micro Frontends, RESTful Web services, GraphQL, JSON, HTML5, JavaScript, Git, continuous integration testing, and Unit Testing
• Experience using or supporting Java, Spring, Google Guice, JPA / Hibernate, Databases (Relational and NoSQL), RESTful web services, AWS, Micro services, Netflix OSS, Jersey, SOAP web services, Axis, JMS, ESBs, XML, XSD, XSL, JSON, HTML5, JavaScript, Apache open source libraries, Maven, Git, Eclipse / NetBeans / IntelliJ, continuous integration testing, shell scripting, Ruby
• Adhere to best practices for code development, version control, continuous integration / delivery, and test / build automation where applicable.
• Comfortable evangelizing mobile app and web technologies across the organization
• Familiarity with dependency management and build systems like Maven and Ant
• Experience working with or supporting open source software such as Spring, Google Guice, Guava, Tomcat, and NoSQL solutions
• Skills :
• Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders to define and develop investigative technology strategy, technology standards, roadmaps, and practices.
• Participate in collaborations with business and technical teams to review conflicts / gaps between functional goals and existing capabilities.
• Thorough understanding of software engineering and object oriented design principles
• Demonstrated in-depth and knowledge of front-end development across Java, mobile app and / or web technologies
• Abilities :
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Ability to take ownership and make technical decisions in complex video platform investigations
• Ability to keep current with trends and technological innovations in the industry in order to contribute to the execution of proofs-of-concept for new approaches

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00 . The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
