The Senior Principal Certification Engineer will be responsible for leading technical certification efforts for the Installation and Integration team within the Interiors Service and Support Organization.

The role requires the successful candidate to ensure new designs and design modifications meet or exceed regulatory requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Communicates with customer to establish understanding of customer's technical requirements and convey certification capabilities, requirements, organizational expertise.
  • Creates and reviews technical proposals for customers by integrating knowledge of product, regulatory requirements, market, price point, organizational capabilities, and business strategy.
  • Approve certification documents produced by other engineers. May be required to author test plans and reports.
  • Conducts necessary testing to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinates activities to ensure that all agreed upon product specific certification requirements are met. This includes working closely with the DERs, ODAs, DOAs, OEMs, or FAA / CAAs.
  • Conducts reviews of complex analyses and tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, and reports to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Reviews entail advanced engineering principles, company standards / procedures, industry standards, regulatory guidance, and regulatory requirements.

Provides constructive feedback to internal and external customers.

  • Reviews / approves drawings and reports to ensure conformity to regulatory requirements. As required, checks for document clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.
  • Research regulations, develops critical data, and generates documentation in response to customer / integrator requirements and / or FAA or foreign regulatory agency requests.

Effectively communicates with necessary parties.

  • Coordinates or leads continuous improvement initiatives that involve cross-functional team settings and responsibilities.
  • Enhance technical knowledge through training, reading technical publications, and participating in the development of industry standards.

Responsible for mentoring and providing training to other engineers.

  • Participates in defining of engineering approaches and in planning / scheduling work.
  • Executes strategies to improve certification efficiency, reduce cost and demonstrate airworthiness with regulatory agencies.
  • Represents the Certification Team in design reviews.
  • Participates as a team player across the organization and keep the values and vision of the organization.
  • Up to 25% travel, based on business needs.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Microsoft Office suite to include Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to use reasoning, creativity, and rational analysis to reduce the scope of certification, while maintaining the compliance of the product.
  • Experience analyzing and identifying failure modes of systems.
  • Prior experience reviewing and approving drawings.
  • Prior experience with approving product deviations.
  • Advanced knowledge of product certification including knowledge of PMA / TSO / STC / OEM qualification and certification.
  • Familiarity with various tasks involved in certification and testing of airplane interior components.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Certification / Test experience, including prior experience in certification by test and certification by analysis
  • Knowledge of FEA and other simulation tools used to mitigate certification risks or reduce the scope of certification effort.
  • Knowledge of EWIS and DO-160 environmental requirements.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education / training, and key skills.
