About The Position
Job Title : Medical Technologist (MT) - Blood Bank Job Specialty : Blood Bank Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 8-hour shift, primarily days, with potential occasional second shift hours Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week Experience : Minimum 2 years of blood banking experience License : Must be licensed in the state of Tennessee as a Medical Technologist (MT) Certifications : AMT or ASCP certification required Must-Have : Strong skills in antibody identification and ability to manage high-volume workloads Job Description : Receive patient samples and blood products.
- Issue blood products and derivatives accurately according to hospital policy.- Perform daily and day-of-use quality control checks.
- Operate automated blood bank analyzers, such as the ECHO.- Modify blood products through aliquoting, splitting pediatric units, thawing FFP and Cryoprecipitate, and pooling FFP for Plasmapheresis.
- Pack coolers for transport, including preparation for Massive Transfusion Protocols (MTP).- Answer telephones to handle inquiries and initiate MTP.
- Conduct various tests, including Type and Screen (ABO / RH & Antibody Screen), DAT (Direct Antiglobulin Test), Antibody Investigation, TEG (Thrombelastograph), Elutions, Crossmatches (Electronic / Immediate Spin / AHG), Fetal Screens, Fetal Fibronectin (fFN), ABO / RH confirmations on new RBCs, and antigen typing.
- Utilize testing equipment including ECHO, TEG 5000, and TLiIQ system (for fFN).- Familiarize with the Lab Information System transition from SafeTrace and Novius to Cerner in the future.
- Participate in a weekend rotation, every other weekend required. Optional call every 4th week if requested.- Work with another person during weekends, ensuring breaks and operational coverage.
- Adhere to dress code : scrubs or business casual; no jeans or t-shirts.- Complete a comprehensive training and orientation program, typically lasting around 12 weeks.
- Training will include a detailed packet and performance evaluations with your trainer before working independently.
