Summary of Position :

Are you passionate about making a global impact through innovative programs and exchanges? Meridian International Center is seeking an Associate Program Officer to support the design, planning, and implementation of exciting programs within one of our core thematic areas.

As an Associate Program Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to manage diverse projects, from concept to execution, while contributing to Meridian’s broader business development efforts.

In this dynamic role, you'll collaborate closely with a Program Officer, Senior Program Officer or Director to ensure every program meets the highest standards of excellence.

Meridian requires employees to reside in MD, DC, or VA.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Establish and determine, with guidance from Program Officer / Senior Program Officer / Director, the concept, budget, activities, schedule and timelines for each program.
  • In consultation with the Program Officer / Senior Program Officer / Director, oversee and monitor in-person or virtual local program activities carried out in DC and other cities around the U.

S. or internationally by program partners, including external contractors, members of the Global Ties US network, universities, and / or international organizations.

  • Travel (domestically and / or internationally) as needed to provide onsite support for programs and / or accompany delegates to provide logistical support during their professional program.
  • Conduct research and identify program resources such as relevant speakers, institutions, and program partners, with guidance from Program Officer / Senior Program Officer / Director.
  • With the Program Officer / Senior Program Officer / Director, serve as a primary point of contact with the funder and maintain open channels of communication during each program with the funder, informing them of all significant developments.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and professional counsel to a Program Coordinator and / or Program Associate who carry out programmatic, logistical, or administrative support functions.
  • Support external communications by providing on a regular basis short descriptions and write-ups, photos, videos, and updates on upcoming and ongoing projects for Meridian’s external audiences, as appropriate.
  • Monitor subrecipient and / or contractor performance and reporting, ensuring timely submission of reports and both technical and financial information, including cost share requirements.
  • Monitor, with guidance from Program Officer / Director, all fiscal, including cost share, and administrative matters related to grants and project budgets ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance through close supervision of project expenses and budget tracking.

Reconcile final accounting and review final budget.

  • Work cooperatively with leadership and staff to research, develop, and lead project proposals that align with Meridian’s mission and meet the organization’s financial goals.
  • Represent Meridian externally to develop and sustain partners and resources.
  • Complete all organizational administrative responsibilities in a timely manner and meet all organizational administrative deadlines.

Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, International Development, Political Science, Public Administration, Business, or related field.
  • At least 4-5 years of related work experience, including some administrative experience.
  • Experience working with international participants and programs and / or studying / working overseas.
  • Experience with managing exchanges or trainings for domestic and international participants.
  • Experience with managing budgets and adhering to a set of financial procedures.
  • Experience in a fluctuating work environment with constantly changing needs, demands, and timelines.
  • Or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :

  • Highly organized; ability to perform complex tasks independently, accurately, and under time constraints in changing work environments and to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong inter-cultural communication skills; maturity, cultural sensitivity, and tact suitable for working with individuals from around the world.
  • Some knowledge of exchange programs, synchronous and asynchronous engagement, and / or project administration preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to act professionally with a wide range of stakeholders including international visitors, implementing partners, and funders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team while being proactive and self-driven in completing responsibilities.
  • Vested interest in upholding Meridian’s core values, particularly in fostering an inclusive workplace.

Technical Requirements :

  • Strong internet and computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
  • Experience with Canva, Zoom and Salesforce is helpful.
