Job Overview

The Principal Data Engineer mentors a team of data engineers who are responsible for analysis, architecture, design and development of data warehouse and business analytics solutions using Azure and Databricks.

The Principal Data Engineer informs the planning and roadmap for the Data Engineering team and owns the quality for the data pipelines the team builds.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Lead and collaborate on analysis, architecture, design, and development of data warehouse, data lake, and business analytics solutions.
  • Research, analyze, recommend, and select technical approaches for solving difficult migration, development, and integration problems.
  • Lead and contribute to data implementation projects and / or project independent workstreams.
  • Data wrangling of heterogeneous data, exploration and discovery in pursuit of new business insights.
  • Conduct and support white-boarding sessions, workshops, design sessions, and project meetings as needed, playing a key role in building relationships with other teams.
  • Mentor other team members in their efforts to build data architect skillsets.
  • Assist team management to define projects, including helping estimate, plan, and scope work.
  • Contribute to presentations required by management and meeting preparations.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, a related subject area or equivalent experience; Masters Degree a plus.
  • 7-10 years related work experience, including at least 5 years in developing cloud solutions using data services.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring senior engineers; previous management experience a plus.
  • Experience designing and building self-service analytics and data engineering solutions using cloud technologies Azure and Databricks (e.

g., EMR, Aurora, Redshift, Glue, S3, SWF, Quicksight etc.).

  • Experience with SDLC and Agile / Scrum methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage global projects or programs including work prioritization, planning, and coordination.
  • Strong verbal / written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal partners.

Licenses / Certifications :

  • Cloud platform certification(s) such as Azure
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, OR Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Washington Pay Range : $165,200.00 - $223,500.00The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed.

The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay may be above or below this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role.

Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and / or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.

Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and / or team performance, while Retail and Business Sales roles are eligible for monthly or quarterly sales incentives.

And since we are ALL owners, EVERY employee at T-Mobile is eligible for an Annual Stock Grant.
