Job Summary

Performs a variety of supervisory and related duties involving responsibility for Geriatric and Adult Behavioral Health Units.
The Nurse Manager will be competent in communication, relationship building, have knowledge of the healthcare environment, leadership, professionalism and business skills.
Will utilize competencies to support the departments in accomplishing evidence-based outcomes for the patient and staff.
This position has 24 hour accountability for human, material and financial resource management. Standard Hours : 40. Job Shift : 7a-3 : 30p (variable). Shift Details : Days
Qualifications
Educational / Minimum Requirements :
Must have a BSN from an accredited school of nursing. MSN preferred.
Must be a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience in a behavioral health clinical setting, some of which must be in an inpatient specialty setting.
Demonstrated progressive leadership experience
Strong written and verbal communications skills required
Must have CPR / BLS certification.
State / Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements :
Must have current Connecticut licensure as a Registered Nurse.
Must be willing to obtain certification in specialty (Psychiatric Nursing Certification) and / or administration within 2 years of accepting position.
Certification must meet the requirements presented by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements :
Must attend General Orientation at time of hire. Fire / Safety / Infection Control annually. Healthcare Provider CPR from American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer CPR by American Red Cross or other similar programs deemed appropriate by management.
Special Requirements :
Excellent interpersonal skills, written, and verbal communication skills. Computer proficiency and keyboarding skills required.
Physical Requirements :
Physical agility with repetitive occurrence including but not limited to; walking, running, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, reaching, standing, sitting, and twisting.
Lifting greater than 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the work day. Looking at a computer monitor for up to two hours daily.
Vision acuity correctable to normal with normal color perception. Hearing acuity is correctable to normal. Acute sense of smell for normal perception.
Ability to verbalize so that the average person can comprehend.
Work Environment :
Acute Behavioral Health Units : Geriatric and Adult Behavioral Health. Regular exposure to patient elements, stress, rapid pace with multi-tasking skills.
Cognitive Requirements :
Must be able to demonstrate critical thinking and good decision making skills. Must be self-directed and able to adapt to change.
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and management of the unit staff including nursing, clinical and therapy staff as assigned.
Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to identify stressful situations and deescalate appropriately.
