Job Description
The Group Director of Commerce & Retail Media role is to provide ecommerce and retail media leadership for one of our largest retail clients.
The individual in this role is responsible for providing strategic direction and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of their clients business as well as the overall technology, marketplace / commerce and competitive landscape.
The Group Director is responsible for cultivating client and media relationships specifically at senior levels. This individual is responsible for being the ultimate ecommerce and retail media consultant to the client and is charged with all general management aspects of the team, including team collaboration, team harmony, big-picture strategic thinking, and financial performance.
They should be an integrated leader who understands media strategy, driving performance marketing for ecommerce initiatives and working with retail media providers and can speak to these topics in front of senior stakeholders with great comfort, expertise and ease.
The role is also one of agency leadership. The individual in this position is responsible for contributing to agency and department initiatives, media operations, and new business efforts.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of media planning experience with a focus in performance marketing objectives
- At least 3 years of shopper, ecom or retail media planning and buying experience
- Experience putting together strategic recommendations and leading day to day conversations with a client team
- Experience working on clients or leading teams across biddable platforms including DSP, SEM, Retail Media and Paid Social
- Retail and / or CPG related experience is a plus, particularly with ecommerce focus
Media Planning
- Direct the development of planning objectives and strategies that align with the clients marketing objectives
- Manage biddable teams across ecommerce and retail media initiatives, serving as the overall account lead for portions of the business
- Set short and long term ecommerce strategies to grow existing retailer ecommerce business while identifying strategies to acquire new households
- Lead clients and internal teams to apply full-funnel, audience-based approaches to ecommerce media including connecting ecommerce to broader omni-channel strategies and experiences
- Research and implement new techniques and technologies that are relevant for clients traditional and digital media strategies
- Oversee the analysis of program results and dialogue with client and internal team on informed strategic implications
- Successfully identify all up-sell opportunities with existing clients, including ability to sell 360i offerings
- Create and negotiate yearly client contracts and supplemental proposals and manage account profitability
- Set negotiations strategies
- Actively provide and discuss commerce-related industry information on media, markets and related dynamics
- Build and maintain relationships with media community; continue to develop partners and higher relationships for exchange of ideas
- Contribute to and participate and present in agency new business efforts and presentations
Relationship Management
- Build and maintain trusting, collaborative relationships with senior clients to deepen agency relationship
- Manage expectations of senior clients and deliverables
- Serve as the lead in managing the agency-client relationship
- Accurately represent the clients point of view when reviewing work, leverage this perspective when providing feedback to team and presenting to client
- Grow business opportunities within current clients
- Ensure collaboration among all agency departments; foster great teamwork
- Include 360i Executives in appropriate client meetings
Strategic Thinking / Leadership
- Collaborate with other cross-functional agency leaders to stay on top and develop POVs as it relates to the emerging landscape of ecommerce, marketplaces and retail media
- Advise clients on business investments and prioritization to best grow ecommerce and retail media offerings
- Lead overarching strategic thinking, ensuring agency strategy and resources align and meets client objectives
- View strategic goals in a broader business context
- Establish priorities for key agency projects
- Initiate long-term projects for teams that will contribute to greater agency revenue
- Demonstrate strong analytical and strategic skills to help solve clients business problems
- Implement efficient and effective solutions to complex problems
- Arrive at solutions that balance the needs of 360i clients
- Actively keep current with industry trends, media business and tools buying systems, research, resources and associations
- Ensure key information is provided to team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.
- Manage assigned groups staffing needs (hiring, promotions, performance)
- Manage the work of assigned media groups, providing leadership, direction and motivation as appropriate
- Manage staff utilization
- Construct and deliver accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
- Train, motivate and develop assigned staff
