As a ministry of Move A Mountain Missions, Brother Andre’s Café helps to fulfill our aim of bringing a charism of care for the most vulnerable, especially those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), to Pittsburgh.

Brother Andre’s Café accomplishes this in a threefold manner.

  • Provide meaningful employment for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities that allows them to share their joy with others.
  • Create a Christ-centered community rooted in prayer and the reality that all of us are God’s beloved daughters and sons.
  • Provide support the broader IDD community and their families through program development and advocacy.

The Area Manager of Brother Andre’s will ensure the cafe operates as a sustainable program so that we can maximize the number of safe, fun and rewarding jobs for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

The Area Manager will be expected to oversee two café locations (with the possibility of further expansion) and will direct all facets of those cafes with full Profit and Loss accountability including operations, sales, procurement, accounting, cafe level Human Resources, and Customer Service.

The Area Manager will report to the Executive Director.

Qualifications :

  • Experience managing a food and beverage operation preferred
  • Experience managing teams and processes effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding passion for hospitality and servant leadership
  • Able to be on your feet for the majority of the day and able to lift items up to 35 pounds
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to work at multiple locations

SALARY : $50,000 - $55,000

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION :

SPIRITUALITY : Brother Andre’s Café is a faith-based organization that keeps the Eucharist at the heart of all that we do.

Our goal is to daily receive the love and joy of Christ to bring that to our customers and coworkers.

  • Assist all team members in growing in their faith by creating time for prayer every shift.
  • Community Prayer and Mass- Organizing and Executing Times of Prayer
  • Organizing and execute Monthly Brother Andre’s Masses (2nd Sunday of each month)

COMMUNITY OUTREACH : Brother Andre’s seeks to engage the community and parish in which we serve and strives to be a beacon of light for the broader IDD community.

  • Work with the parish leadership to ensure Brother Andre’s is an integral part of the parish and community and is a locus of Community, Evangelization, and Education.
  • Organize community events that foster integration for our team members and the broader IDD community, draw awareness to Brother Andre’s, and drive top line sales.
  • Coordinate all special events at the Café and ensure adequate staffing. Operate Brother Andre’s pop-up bar to sell product at other Churches and for various events.

TEAM DEVELOPMENT : Ensure that the café has sufficient and qualified staff to make for a safe and enjoyable workplace.

  • Supervise and train all current and future management, staff, and volunteers.
  • Instill and maintain a positive culture of hospitality and servant leadership
  • Instill Brother Andre’s Mission and Core Values in our staff, team members, and volunteers.
  • Offer appropriate coaching and direction to the team while providing regular feedback. Work in conjunction with the Occupational Therapy Vocational program and execute growth plans for each team member
  • Conduct monthly One-on-Ones with team leads provide feedback and address any concerns they have.
  • Communicate regularly through written communication to make sure all team members are aware of developments in the café such as seasonal drinks, upcoming events, changes in policies, updates on weekly / monthly goals.
  • Organize events to celebrate the successes and provide support for our team members
  • Oversee weekly schedules for team leads and team members. The schedule should be published in homebase two weeks prior to the start of the shift

HUMAN RESOURCES : Complete café-level human resources responsibilities by implementing and enforcing HR policies and procedures including :

  • Oversee onboarding and training of all new employees. Ensure Background Checks and clearances are up to date for all employees and volunteers.
  • Fill out incident reports, progressive discipline reports, and conduct annual reviews
  • Confirm that staff hours are accurately recorded and downloaded from Homebase into ADP at the end of each pay period so payroll can be completed in a timely manner

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT : Apply best practices to monitor and drive four-wall profitability to make the café sustainable so as to generate as many meaningful jobs as possible :

  • Set daily, weekly and monthly sales goals including KPIs. Identify opportunities and institute key performance indicators to meet and exceed sales goals.
  • Ensure accurate recording of all sales, expenditures, and donations. Communicate effectively with our accounting team so that all data is entered into the proper account and classification.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and reduce shrinkage.
  • Manage cafe level supply chain and ensure effective inventory management to meet or beat budgeted COGS percentage (65%-75% for food and bev;

45%-55% for merchandise)

Analyze and manage café financials by completing monthly P&L reviews.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

  • Assist in developing and implementing training programs in easy-to-follow formats to maintain consistency and safety and preservation of equipment.
  • Ensure ServSafe standards are upheld to maintain café cleanliness including all service spaces, guests seating area, and bathroom facilities.

Model a commitment to cleanliness for the rest of our team

  • Work with various venders to procure all supplies needed for café operations including : coffee and coffee products, food prep, baking, cleaning supplies, merchandise, equipment.
  • Respond to customer service inquiries through the website, shopify app, and emails
  • Become skilled in all facets of cafe operations : Cashier, Barista, and Food Prep. Be able to provide training in each of these areas for new team members.
  • Assist in preparation and service of menu drinks and food items when needed. Make sure that recipes are being followed accurately.
  • Ensure that routine maintenance and cleaning of the equipment is occurring. Schedule annual preventative maintenance of equipment
  • Become an expert in Clover Point of Sales. Ensure that prices, COGS, and inventory are entered accurately. Check the COGS quarterly and adjust if necessary.

Enter new products into the POS with COGS

Monitor food and drink items and make recommendations to adjust the menu based on sales and profit margins

OVERSEE ONLINE STORE AND SHIPPING CENTER

  • Manage inventory and implement loss-prevention procedures.
  • Assist our staff in fulfilling online orders
  • Ensure that the data entered in Shopify is accurate and matches Clover (Sales Price, COGS). Ensure pictures for new products are compelling and the online store is engaging
