Job Responsibilities

Overview :

The Assistant Director of Experiential Learning will lead and implement the development of new and continuation of current experiential learning opportunities and programs for SJF students.

This position will work to provide a framework for the effective expansion, development and assessment of experiential educational opportunities across campus, with particular attention for the School of Business and the School of Arts and Sciences.

They will manage institutional resources to develop new experiential opportunities and facilitate promotion of current experiential opportunities.

They will lead the development and implementation of tracking, reporting and assessment measures across campus to measure student achievement and program success.

They will also manage teaching the internship course, providing classroom presentations, supporting students through coaching appointments, overseeing employer site visits, creating new initiatives around hands-on learning and supporting large scale career events.

In addition, this role will work alongside multiple departments and constituents to establish new and maintain existing relationships to market and support students, graduates and alumni.

This individual will lead the Experiential Learning Advisory Council and the Employer Advisory Board, co-run the fisher flight program alongside the alumni office, and supervise the funding of the Career Accelerator Awards.

The assistant director will support general operations of the Career Services department including participating in recruitment functions, fairs, and assisting with data and assessment efforts.

The successful candidate will enjoy working with students, possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Have a collaborative / creative approach to problem solving, can manage multiple projects at once, and have a holistic student-centered philosophy.

They will have a record of maintaining strong relationships with multiple constituents and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Build new experiential learning programs and opportunities, leveraging institutional resources and industry partnerships.
  • Work to centralize experiential opportunities, including marketing, outreach, education, onboarding, and reporting through Handshake, with The Fisher Outcomes, and the School of Business and School of Arts and Sciences.
  • Develop, implement, track, and report experiential learning ( both for and not-for credit) across the University through effective collaboration with campus partners.
  • Manage the implementation of curriculum and teaching of the internship class for students and serve as the faculty supervisor for these students.
  • Create workshops, webinars, and online content to particularly to serve the needs of underrepresented students and programs without an experiential learning requirement.
  • Oversee the Career Accelerator Awards, co-manage the Fisher Flight Program, and plan and implement Employer Site Visits.
  • Manage the Experiential Learning Advisory Council & Employer Advisory Board guiding strategic direction and fostering engagement on campus.
  • Collaborate with other offices on campus and local community partners to facilitate relationships and build experiential learning partnerships.
  • Provide experiential learning partners with educational opportunities related to best practices on internships, experiential learning, and market trends as needed.
  • Engage with the Alumni office to collaborate on career readiness and experiential education development with alumni partners.
  • Provide holistic career development by conducting individual coaching sessions, delivering engaging presentations, and teaching the credit bearing internship class.
  • Oversee tracking on international students post graduation.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments and reports in the context of experiential education, The Fisher Outcomes and NACE career-readiness competencies, and First Destination Survey.
  • Track and report on job market, use of career services, trends in recruiting, job-offer data, and hiring results for students in various academic majors.
  • Be up to date on best practices and hiring trends and manage employer education efforts on campus and in the community and participate in professional development activities and associations at the local, state and national level.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Education / Experience

A Master's degree with two years of full-time experience in a career services OR a bachelor's with significant experience working in career services or a related student services office at a higher education institution.

The Assistant Director for Experiential Learning must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employers, staff, faculty, and students, and must have demonstrated success in program development, marketing, management and assessment in a professional setting.

Competencies / Skills

Competencies / Skills : Excellent interpersonal skills, a record demonstrating capability in making presentations and proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including students, faculty, staff, alumni and employers, experience providing career coaching or counseling.

Experience creating and marketing events through various social media and career platforms (such as Handshake).

Requires some physical effort (i.e., standing and walking, light lifting (5-10 lbs.) and manual dexterity in the use of fingers or limbs in the operation of office equipment;

extended periods of time at a keyboard, perceptual demands for sound, form, texture and depth .

Work Hours

This twelve month, full-time position is scheduled for 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours.

The salary range for this role is set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, qualifications, experience, and education.
