JOB GOAL
To build safe and caring relationships with students, monitor student behavior, and promote positive school discipline in order to prevent school safety issues and incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrates the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Knowledge of child development concepts and practices
- Knowledge of disciplinary practices and procedures within an educational setting
- Knowledge of behavioral modification techniques
- Knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations
- Demonstrates ability in working with diverse populations (ELL, Special Education and Gifted)
- Participates in professional growth opportunities
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Demonstrates the ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Must demonstrate an extremely high regard for confidential and sensitive information
- Must demonstrate flexibility, common sense, good judgment, and the ability to function well under stress

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build ongoing and sustainable relationships with students to help prevent negative incidents related to school safety
- Monitor student behavior, especially during unstructured times (i.e. passing times, lunch times, etc.), to prevent school safety issues including, but not limited to, bullying, harassment, fighting, and rugs
- Gather and analyze data related to school safety to share with administration order to take a proactive approach to reducing school safety issues
- Support students at-risk of exhibiting negative behavior through relationship building, behavior intervention plans, and community building to help reduce exclusionary discipline practices
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and communities to promote supportive school discipline
- Serve as a check-in / check-out support staff member or student escort, as needed, to reduce negative incidents related to school safety
- Assist in de-escalating situations that place student safety at risk including fights, bullying, or weapons
- Monitor school grounds to prevent unauthorized visitors in order to keep the campus safe
- Support students with safe and caring self-regulation strategies including, but not limited to, breaks, breathing exercises, and reflection charts
- Perform home visits for tardiness, absences and truancy concerns
- Assist as a member of the school crisis team
- Other related duties, as assigned
KNOWLEGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable Cartwright School District and departmental policies and procedures.
