Job Description

The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of standards and protocols to support the introduction of new products to the US Market.

The role will primarily be focused on gaining recognition for the components of branded BlueScope products in relevant US standards.

This will require a deep technical knowledge of the product and the ability to influence professional associations to recognize the attributes of the product formally.

In addition, the role will support advising customers and building specifiers on appropriate use of the product in real life applications.

Including structural integrity and expected performance criteria. The role will also support future product development to ensure the performance criteria remains at the forefront of the competition.

Duties include but not limited to :

  • Gain recognition in ASTM standards for premium branded products.
  • Gain accreditation for premium branded products in the cool roof council assessment. This will include optimizing the product for cool pigments and verifying the processing and performance capability of this optimization.
  • Support a future roadmap of product development for premium branded products in the US and execute each stage with the support of local and international (PIT) teams.

Qualifications

Minimum :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Material Science or similar technical field
  • 5+ years in product development
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time

Preferred :

5+ years of Metal roofing product experience

  • Results oriented attitude with a proved track record of ensuring key deadlines are met
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple business groups and industry peers while building collaborative relationships
  • Ability to develop written procedures, work instructions, and specifications
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities
  • Knowledge of Oracle Based ERP Systems
  • Efficient organization skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills; verbal and written
  • Ability to review and understand technical data
  • Work safely at all times and supports all business safety initiatives and requirements
