Position description

The UC Merced Community and Labor Center (CLC) is located at the University of California Merced. It conducts research and education on issues of community, labor and employment.

The CLC was awarded $5,950,000 by the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) to administer and coordinate the COVID Worker Outreach Project (CWOP), aimed to educate workers in the Central Valley and Inland Empire regions about their rights at work.

As the CWOP Regional Lead for the Central Valley region, under the supervision of the Lead PI, the CWOP Coordinator will facilitate a regional coalition comprised of local community-based organizations and unions to identify priority populations to reach through the program's outreach activities, as well as skill and resource development needs among the staff of participating Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to effectively reach workers.

The CWOP Coordinator will work closely, under the supervision of the Lead PI, with each funded CBO to support respective outreach deliverables, ensure timely reporting, and provide technical assistance, as needed.

The CWOP Coordinator will support regional training, events, and serve as a liaison with state enforcement agencies for organizations participating in the program.

This position will help to extend the intellectual resources of the University focused explicitly on increasing opportunities and also increasing access to opportunities for underrepresented and under-resourced communities.

This position will focus on :

a) Supporting and facilitating monthly CWOP Regional Coalition Meetings.

b) Building strong partnerships with community-based organizations, labor, public agencies, and local emergency preparedness organizations through CWOP.

c) Supporting training, outreach, and program development, with a special emphasis on low-wage and immigrant workers, and build the capacity of worker leaders, unions, and community organizations to promote and address a variety of health and safety issues.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years of experience, OR Master's degree (or equivalent) in related subject matter.

Strong organizational skills and decision-making abilities

Ability to work collaboratively in a team

Preferred qualifications

Demonstrated strong communication and writing skills in English and Spanish (or another language needed to support low-wage workers in the region)

Experience in curriculum development

Experience planning and conducting participatory training and outreach programs for labor and community organizations

Knowledge of or experience in occupational health and safety, environmental health, and / or emergency preparedness

Background in labor, public health, or a related field

2-5 years experience designing and implementing participatory training programs
