About The Position
Job Title : Surgical Technologist I Job Specialty : Labor & Delivery Operating Room Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Nights, 3x12 Hr Guaranteed Hours : 36.
00 per week Experience : 0-3 years License : Not specified Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification Must-Have : - Successful completion of service-specific portion of Surgical Technologist competencies- Strong communication and customer service skills- Excellent organizational and priority-setting skills Job Description : Perform technical duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices according to accepted standards.
- Provide proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation.- Follow aseptic technique and proactively address contamination and / or breaks in the technique.
- Perform surgical counts and follow policies for incorrect counts, reporting discrepancies appropriately.- Label drugs and solutions;
monitor quantities used.- Assist in the proper identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
- Participate in planning and setting up instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes in an organized manner for optimal accessibility during procedures.
- Assist the surgeon, demonstrating an understanding of patient anatomy and abnormalities affecting the surgical procedure.
- Assist in case planning and instrument needs assessment.- Modify scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information, developing modifications to standard care approaches, and communicating with the surgical team.
- Respond to surgical emergencies and follow hospital-wide emergency management plans.- Inventory, receive, and store supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
- Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.- Assist with restocking operating / procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
- Assist the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase.- Operate complex equipment and other resources in the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
- Serve as a mentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and as a preceptor as needed.
