HOURS : 8 hours per day
CONTRACTED DAYS : TBD
RATE OF PAY : $26 $32, plus benefits depending on experience and qualifications. This position is a grant funded position.
SUMMARY :
This position was created to provide for the immediate physical health needs of students in the Stockbridge Community School District.
An additional goal is to integrate this position and the RN into a Federally Qualified Health Center in the Stockbridge community.
This position is ideal for someone who is community minded, who would like to help build local programming and services for the Stockbridge community.
This position will provide opportunities for community outreach, as well as the opportunity to help design and develop the programs offered.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) licensure requiredBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), strongly preferred Current certification in BLS (BLS includes CPR and AED)
EXPERIENCE :
- Minimum of three (3) years of practical experience working as a registered nurse required
- Minimum of two (2) years of Public Health / Community Health experience preferred
- Previous experience working as a nurse with adult and pediatric populations preferred
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
- Ability to work positively, independently and collaboratively with students, employees, parents, medical personnel and the general public
- Knowledge of state and local school health laws and policies
- Ability to adapt the nursing process to fit the health needs of the school community
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information (medical and personal information)
- Remain flexible in order to adapt to changes in the work environment
- Demonstrated skill in effective problem-solving, decision making and verbal and written communication required
- Basic computer skills, including e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets
- Ability to assess situations and act quickly
- Ability to multitask
RESPONSIBILITIES : (Does not include all tasks employee may be expected to
- Regular communication with administrative staff, professional staff, students and families regarding health concerns and issues
- Administer medication and treatments prescribed by physicians, consistent with district
- policies
- Plans and uses professional judgment and acts accordingly to carry out the functions of this position within the nursing scope of practice
- Provide supervision, periodic evaluation and training of delegated tasks to assigned healthcare technicians or unlicensed assistive personnel including but not limited to medication administration, diabetes care, asthma, allergy, seizures, etc.
- Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students in response to and in accordance with professional standards, school policies and procedures, and state and local mandates
- Administer medications required by IEP and 504 plans, and maintain accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state and school mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions and the related archival responsibilities in MCIR, and reports to the local health department
- Assess student’s health care needs and develop student specific individualized health plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans(ECPs)
- Respond to building emergent mental health and medical situations as available
- Communicate with teachers, case managers, social workers, other school personnel, and parents / guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of our students
- Make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse / neglect as a mandated reporter and collaborate with other school staff and administration
- Conduct student specific trainings for teachers, healthcare technicians and / or unlicensed assistive personnel
- Support the building medical emergency response team (MERT) with medical and cardiac emergency responses and drills
- Assist in the prevention and control of communicable disease including assessment / triaging of staff and student reported illness, assistance with contact tracing and quarantine notification
- Demonstrate initiative and creativity with students and their programs
- Assist professional staff with keeping records, making copies and related administrative support functions related to student needs, including MCIR monitoring and implementation
- Understanding of school confidentiality requirements regarding FERPA and HIPAA
- While maintaining student confidentiality, act as a resource for teaching staff in appropriate medical processes and / or procedures
- Coordinate with ICHD for vision and hearing screening programs
- Coordinate voluntary dental screening program
- Punctual, reliable and predictable attendance is required
- Other duties as assigned
