The National Ornamentals Research Site at Dominican (NORS-DUC) provides nursery growers with solutions, along with collaborating researchers with lab and field support, to aid in horticulture and plant disease management.
The lab manager position will lead the day-to-day operation of the labs, oversee and ensure operational efficiency and safety of the people working in these labs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Conduct and manage experiments on multiple projects independently in the lab using microbiological, immunological and molecular methods
- Manage inventory, chemical supplies, equipment service, contracts, warranties and coordinate repair, maintenance, calibration and monitoring of laboratory equipment and act as a point of contact for system alerts
- Maintain microbial culture collection
- Manage procurement operations, such as placing Purchase Orders with vendors, maintaining price list, negotiation with the vendors, tracking and managing laboratory material purchases
- Provide experimental set up support for new research projects and establish strong relationships with the current and prospective collaborators by interacting and efficiently communicating in a professional manner.
- Ensure understanding of and compliance with laboratory facilities, standard operating procedures and best management practices.
Prepare for inspections, ensure that team members receive proper safety training and maintain training records
- Train personnel and technical staff, supervise Dominican undergraduate research trainees
- Participate and present in seminars, conferences, outreach events, nursery tours, trainings and trade shows as needed
- Participate and provide support in organizing events at the facility
- Perform other duties as directed, including assisting projects in the NORS-DUC nursery

- MSc in Biology
- 3+ years of experience in a research lab
- Experience with DNA analysis; immunological tests; microscopy
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; basic knowledge of statistic and bioinformatics software
Preferred Qualifications :
lab experience working with plant pathogens
