National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry.

Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US.

Following Orientation, you'll begin working in the full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

Information Technology and Digital Graduate Rotations.

Graduates in our IT & Digital team will take part in an 18-month exploration. Your first 6-months will be in the role outlined below and you will return to this role following two broadening 6-month placements (in closely related fields such as ML Engineering, Data Engineering, etc.

designed to provide you a breadth of experience within your functional area and accelerate your progression at National Grid.

These placements will provide you with the opportunity to solve complex problems and focus on growth that will transform the energy sector as we know it.

About the Position.

As a member of the National Grid Data Science team, you will provide insights and conclusions from multiple sources of information in a variety of different formats using analysis techniques that range from simple to advanced.

You will work in a dynamic organization to turn data into actionable intelligence. The variety and complexity of challenges you will solve is second to none, but most important is the real-world impact your work will have on the lives of millions of people.

You would work cross-functionally and on Agile teams, and you would be applying your broad knowledge of :

  • Statistical & Probabilistic Analyses
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Data Engineering
  • Programming / Software Development
  • Effective Visualization and Presentation

What You'll Do.

  • Assist with work on major projects from conception to completion, working with multiple teams of stakeholders directly to understand and address their analytic needs.
  • Identify, extract, and integrate data sets ranging in size from spreadsheets to big data; prepare and clean data for use in advanced analysis.
  • Employ sophisticated analytics programs, machine learning, and statistical methods for predictive and prescriptive modeling, forecasting, and simulations.
  • Contribute to the development of structured, documented, version-controlled code that enables automation and post-roll out customer self-service.

What You'll Need.

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Data Science, Statistics, Economics or related numerative degree from an accredited institution.
  • Proficient technical skills in Python programming language.
  • Graduated between May 2024 and June 2025.
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 2, 2025 or July 7, 2025.
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy.
  • Applicants for the Graduate Development Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization).

More Information

Salary Range : Waltham, Massachusetts $77,000 - $81,000 a year.

Please note US Colleagues must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

As a National Grid employee, you should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
