Primary Functions :
Pharmacy Technician's acts as a liaison between pharmacy and nursing service personnel to ensure that identified problems / concerns are
addressed in a timely manner. Responsible for maintaining State certified technician registration. Perform tasks associated with the preparation,
dispensing, and shipping process under the personal supervision and presence of a pharmacist.
Major Responsibilities :
- 1. Maintains a clean and neat pharmacy;
- 2. Maintains inventory for all medications and supplies including PRN medications;
- 3. Assist pharmacist in filling patient orders in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations;
- 4. Maintains up-to-date records of new and refill prescriptions in appropriate files and patient charts. Maintains proper filing of all patient chart information including annual renewal of patient information forms;
- 5. Works with nurses, patients, and prescribers to initiate new prescriptions as needed and keep nurses informed on shipments, variance, delivery, assay of potency, insurance, availability and tracking, etc.;
6. Receive new or transferred oral medical and prescription orders, as allowed per state board of pharmacy regulations.
7. Coordinates with other company offices for the filling of prescriptions as needed;
8. Reviews and maintains current information on insurance, reimbursements,
physicians, patients, delivery tickets, nursing notes and other pertinent data
- in CPR+;
- 9. Sets up deliveries of medication with nurses, patients, and out of state pharmacies;
- 10.Maintains communication with Billing Support Specialist by furnishing all paperwork to ensure proper billing and collection;
- 11.Ensures all prescriptions are current by notifying Infusion Care Nurses and patients of expiring prescriptions within one month of their expiration;
- 12.Resolves minor insurance problems for nurses / patients; notifies Billing Specialist of any problems which cannot be rectified within 24 hours of receipt;
- 13.Performs Pharmacy Technician duties under the direction of the Pharmacy Director or PRN Staff Pharmacist;
- 14.Processes all pharmacy licensing and permits; ensures they are updated and properly displayed;
- 15.Participates in patient safety, quality, and infection control programs as directed;
Qualification Requirements :

Education :
High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred completion of accredited pharmacy technician program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
General knowledge of drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience :
Previous administrative experience preferred.
Previous experience with CPR+ preferred.
Language Skills :
Ability to read and interpret documents.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills :
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations :
Preferred National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and complete a pharmacy technician-training program from an accredited institution.
