Job Description
The Registered Nurse provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment.
Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and the practice policies and procedures.
This position practices professional nursing by performing acts which require substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skill based upon applied principles of psychological, physical, and social sciences.
Responsibilities
- Provides professional nursing care to patients. Observes, assesses, performs nursing diagnosis, with intervention and evaluation of care of the patient as directed by providers.
- Performs patient check in duties promptly, prepares equipment and aids Physician / NP during treatment and examination of patient.
Assists physician / NP with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments when appropriate.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
- Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Obtains vital signs, collects samples, such as blood for testing and may perform routine laboratory tests, where applicable.
Interprets basic cardiac arrhythmias and takes appropriate action
- Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care.
- Appropriately operates clinical equipment such as stress and EKG machines, cardiac monitors and defibrillators, SaO2 monitors, and IV infusion pumps.
- Answers patient calls and requests in a timely manner.
- Maintains current knowledge / certification / licensure.
- Indirectly supervises Medical Assistants within the practice. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include training employees; assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Technical Diploma / Certificate Nursing Required or
- Associates Degree Nursing Required or
- Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required and
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in acute and chronic care nursing, knowledge, and skills
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of quality improvement and patient satisfaction.
