The Traffic Engineer position earns a competitive salary , depending on experience. On any given day you'll :

  • Design of traffic signal and coordinated signal systems.
  • Traffic modeling, intersection capacity analysis and intersection design studies.
  • Preparation of traffic studies, safety studies and other traffic related studies.
  • Serve as Project Engineer for selected projects.
  • Prepare and perform signal coordination and timing studies.
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of related steps or processes.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or government regulations.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Working knowledge of modern principles and practices of Traffic Engineering.
  • Current licensure as a Professional Engineer in Illinois or have the ability to obtain the PE license within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have hands-on experience with common Traffic Engineering software including; Highway Capacity Software, Synchro / Sim Traffic, and MicroStation.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • May require light work involving standing or walking in the field on occasion.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Physical Demands :

  • Ability to sit, walk, reach, crouch, bend, and walk or stand on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Constant hand, finger, and arm use
  • Constant computer screen exposure
  • Prolonged reading
