This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer in New York (USA).

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust backend systems that power high-traffic web platforms. You will architect APIs, optimize databases, and implement scalable solutions to handle millions of daily requests. Working closely with product, frontend, and data teams, you will drive technical decisions, ensure system reliability, and deliver clean, maintainable code. The role offers both hands-on development and technical leadership, giving you the opportunity to influence architecture, mentor peers, and define best practices. You will thrive in a fast-paced, remote-first environment where innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration are key.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will :

  • Architect, develop, and maintain backend systems capable of handling high volumes of traffic and complex data workflows.
  • Design, implement, and optimize APIs powering research and media platforms.
  • Build pipelines for parsing, modeling, and processing large-scale blockchain and financial datasets.
  • Ensure database reliability and performance, including data modeling, query optimization, and caching strategies (MySQL / PostgreSQL, Redis).
  • Lead backend feature development from planning to production, including CI / CD pipeline management.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability issues in real-world scenarios.
  • Enhance automated testing, monitoring, and observability across backend systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with frontend, product, and data teams to ensure seamless integration and system consistency.

Requirements

Candidates should have :

  • 5+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering, with a strong focus on API design and system architecture.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js; experience with NestJS or similar frameworks is a plus.
  • Expertise in relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and experience optimizing queries and data models.
  • Experience with caching strategies and tools such as Redis to improve performance and scalability.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI / CD pipelines, and deployment tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to write clean, maintainable, and reusable code.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Exposure to PHP legacy migrations and database access layers like TypeORM.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Experience in crypto, blockchain, or ML / AI-related systems.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
